  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have noticed two things about Average MPG mode data displayed by the trip computer. The first one may be by design, but the second definitely looks like a bug (hopefully it does not indicate anything more serious).

1) The collected data used to compute the average MPG is discarded after every tank refill. The average is calculated starting from zero as I pull off from gas station.

2) Sometimes, the data is lost after the car is parked overnight or even for few hours. Again, the historical data is forgotten and the calculation starts from zero.

Have anybody seen this behavior?

Regards,
Alex

1. MPG starts over when you fill your tank (minimum amount of gas added required which I don't recall).

2. The trip information (such as trip duration in minutes, etc) starts over when the car is parked for a few hours (don't recall the exact amount of time), since the computer assumes that after a few hours you are not just stopping for a leak or bite to eat, and a new trip is starting.

3. All of this is documented in the Owners Manual, so RTFM.

4. Regarding whether this is an indication of a more serious problem, please consult a licensed professional for that one.

Are you parking on an incline? That would cause the car to think the fuel level has changed and reset the stats. This would happen on my 06 Avalon every so often.

yeah, this may be the case, I need to double-check.

Thank you for your help.

All this is documented in the FM except the fact that the average fuel consumption resets after the vehicle is parked on slope. And that it does so only occasionally.

Sorry, I thought you were referring to loosing trip duration information overnight, not MPG info.
