  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 1.5 inch patch of bad orange peel and an actual paint drip on my new car. The Service manager says neither is covered under warranty and tried to convince me the drip is a dent I caused. Dents don't push out from the inside.

Any advice? I'm really unhappy with not only the reply but also in this defect in my brand new "luxury" vehicle.

FYI the dealer is Genesis of Santa Monica

You don't give any information aside from G70. By Brand New, do you mean you just got it a week ago? If so, paint should be covered.

I can't copy it from the manual but it says 3 years, 36,000

You may be able to talk to the GM of the dealer since the SM blew you off, next would be Genesis customer service.

Paint should be perfect. Where are the spots located? If very visible I'd want it fixed. If some hard to see spot on the rocker panedl, I'd rather they did not do any repainting.

In any case, you want a record of it but I'd certainly bump it up the line. I'd ask the salesman who the GM is and get him involved .

Thanks for your input. The dealer I bought from has been great about wanting to make it right. The dealer I had a hard time with is closer to my home in theory more convenient. Really poor experience especially for a brand new dealer trying to build a good reputation. The drip and the color issue are half way down the passenger side door so very visible. Taking it in tomorrow.

I have a very long and frustrating story over the defective paint on my first GV70. Noticed it two day after I brought the car home. Salesman said he didn't see what I was talking about, the the "store manager" basically blew me off, inferred I might have done the damage, and told me to call Genesis Concierge to start a warranty claim.
The dealer's authorized body shop acknowledged the bad paint and said the only way to correct it is to have both sides of the car repainted. To me, unacceptable.

I reach out to the store manager again and ask for his general manager's contact. He told me he is the contact for the dealership and ignored my second request for his boss' contact information.

I do a search and email the owner of the auto group (24 dealerships). Within the day I got a phone call from the president of the company who had the dealership's GM call me. Next day they took my bad-paint GV70 back and within a week they traded with another local dealer to get me into the same color combination car.

Not sure how bad your paint flaws are, but mine were bad enough that the only people who claimed they couldn't see the flaws were the salesman and the store manager. I was not going to accept having to have both sides of my new GV70 completely repainted to make it look right, not without a fight.

Happy ending since the auto group's owner, president and dealership's GM actually cared about proper customer service.

Good luck in getting a resolution that will make you happy

cheers

Very Impressive. I once got Porsche to buy back a new Cayenne. Different issue. In this case it's a spot about 1.5 inches in diameter that looks like a dark grease smudge and a drip a couple inches away. I know first hand they can repaint an area and blend perfectly. I have had scratches done that way on other cars. Don't love the idea but it might be the least pain all the way around. I'll see what they have in store for me tomorrow.
