If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Figured this would be a good thread to list issue we've experienced with our Equus' and what the fix was. This could be our Equus Almanac.

2013 Hyunda Equus Ultimate

33k ECM went out had it replaced at dealership. $2.3k

50k Navigation/Radio had a short and was killing my battery/alternator parasite drain. Navigation is done, a replacement would be $3.2k, I'm currently looking for a replacement, may even try putting a mini ipad in the navigation window and having someone do all the wiring.

Got a 14 signature in may. ~81k miles. Alternator went bad at around ~82.5k $1k for alternator and new battery. Currently having issues with the brakes being inconsistent and spongy. Shop just quoted me $6k to replace the HECU module which supposedly has a bad brake pressure sensor. (85k miles)

49,000 miles AC compressor failed

Replaced air suspension bags on right side.....been good for a year and a half....recently had the airbag light come on....haven’t found a fix for it....also rear window shade doesn’t work...motor spins but it doesn’t move

‘11 ultimate

14 Ulimate: 97k miles alternator replaced under extended warranty. Surround camera, backing up camera, and radar cruise control wacked and not operational since 94k miles. Current mileage is 98k miles.

  • Cylinder 6 fuel injector replaced under warranty - 11OCT2019 @ 54,641mi
  • Front air struts replaced - 17JAN2022 @ ~ 82K mi

Current mileage: 96.5K

'16 Ultimate

I've got a low mileage '16 (~67k) and have a few little issues without a real cause I can put to them... A light knock in the left front over bumps occasionally, as well as a squeak on some internal panel near the steering wheel. The only other thing I can add is that I was having a bunch of small electrical glitches, nothing truly serious, but enough in quantity and varied enough to make my wallet really nervous. THings like:

the auto door close not working (it would pull the door in, but not enough to latch)

the rear sunshade would go up or down, seemingly at random

the drive mode would change on startup (If I was in normal, it would start up in sport)

I noticed that my phone charger was ... pulsing? for lack of a better term. It's a wireless puck, and I would see the charge constantly restarting on the phone screen.

The AHLS light was coming on (very rarely), typically at startup, only to go back off with the next restart.

The car wouldn't start, full dead battery symptoms such as single chug and click, only to spin happily into a start a few second later when I tried again.

This was the one that got me to change the battery, replaced the stocker with a new 900 CCA unit, and I have yet to see any of those problems resurface. The door strongly pulls closed, the shade is staying put, and the drive mode is staying put. I have also noticed that the phone charger is not cycling any more, and I have yet to see the AHLS light come on.

I would never have connected all those problems with a low battery, so if you're getting strange electrical gremlins, get your battery checked.

Oh yeah, my exhaust seems to get deeper, more macho even, when I'm driving in the rain. That one concerns me a bit, but I haven't seen any leaks, so it is what it is for now.

14 Equus Signature with 65000 miles. Bought in 17 with 21000 miles.
Right rear passenger window motor failed at 40K. $700 to repair (not considered under warranty).
Drivers seat sometimes not allowed to move back - has happened 3x (I found the fix on this Forum, it involves flipping a switch under the seat)
Adaptive cruise control (SCC) randomly stops working. Seems to happen more on concrete roadways. Haven't attempted to fix.
Passenger headrest "popped" at 35k. Purchased a used one on eBay for $200 (Dealer quoted 600).
Trunk latch cover broke. Replaced for $150 and still comes loose. It's a 2$ piece of plastic so really a sore point.
Rear camera turns on for 3-5 seconds when in reverse and then the screen turns black for a few seconds before coming back on.
Sunroof motor making a grinding noise last few months so opening it sparingly.
So a bunch of minor to moderate nuisances.

I also replaced left rear window motor (500)

Minor nuisances getting more costly.
Add to the above
-Battery discharge light so Alternator and drive belt (1500$) need to be replaced.

It's getting to the point to where at some point enough is going to be enough with the issue's with the Equus'. I love my car, take extremely great care of it, inside and out, but if another major thing happens I just might run it in a ditch. She's beauty, I get compliments all the time, but.......

To fix parstic draw that caused by AVN unit you will have 3 options:
1. Looking for second hand from scrap yard

2. Add toggle switch that's let you to cut off electricity from AVN UNIT
See pictures you need to connect all 10A switch of multimedia, audio1, audio2

3. Connect your AVN unit with rely which cutting the electricity on/off depending on car itself.

2014 equus 65k miles,

at idle ac is luke warm (understandable) Im going to flush the conensor coils, install hood vents, and upgrade the rad cooling fan.

Was on way to work one morning and while driving my digital cluster just went completely black, just died, stopped at gas station, started car again and it came back on, kinda scared me cause that wouldve been expensive.

Other than that my main concern is the sinking spongy brake pedal, this is my 2nd equus with the same issue. Doing further research looks like its either gonna be ABS module or master cylinder, but more than likely ABS module. I still drive it, I just have to brake way ahead of time.

Have you check to see it is at proper refrigerant charge? That would be step 1 for me. Cleaning the coil is always good but I don't see the need for a lot of other work.

About 120k on a 2015 ultimate:

  • 360 camera module fried itself, so putting in reverse had no backup camera. Tested that the module got 12V, so I replaced the module with a new one found on eBay for a 2020 Kia Carnival (PN 95770-3N400 for around $800). Camera button constantly blinks because it never ran through the first time calibration/alignment, but that's a dealer only thing (requires not only a special tool, but an entire floor setup that most dealers might not even have). I've opted to leave it alone cause I at least get a 360 image again, albeit slightly misaligned.
  • Rear air shocks leaking, solenoid block for suspension giving "Ambiance Valve Failure in the winter (and eventually summer). That's typical, replaced with Suncore bags and RMT block)
  • Clunk in front right suspension, unsure if it's a sway bar or whatever, but it happens over high frequency small bumps. Can't reproduce the sound on a lift, and car still handles fine.
  • ^ That being said, ride feels rough despite still being on air suspension and having fairly decent touring tires and running on recommended pressure. Feels like adaptive dampers aren't doing their job, but I get no error codes and ran through calibrations. Height sensors seem fine too.
  • Right side blend door failed and would blow hot air in the summer. (PN 97159-3M500). VERY annoying repair that required much of the interior panels to be removed.
  • Icons keep disappearing from the all-digital dash (no bars for MPG, settings icons and sliders, etc). Came back once then disappeared. Resets don't fix it, not sure what can be done.
  • Visor mirror lights in front seats died.
  • Right mirror folding motor had a broken plastic gear that snapped and didn't let it fold/unfold. Took it apart and superglued it back together cause I couldn't find the gear. Very annoying repair, but it seems to work. Would opt to buy a replacement mirror next time.
  • Vented seats don't always blow through effectively. Can hear the blower working fine, may be clogged.
  • Using aux audio input, there's a high pitched whine with a pitch that gets higher proportional to engine RPM. Not loud, but sounds like bad shielding in the radio maybe.
  • Occasional transmission shudder when getting going at a low RPM. Usually brief, and has been like this for almost 40k miles, doesn't seem like a flush helps much. Doesn't slip yet or anything, so we'll see how long it lasts, but shops indicate it's not worth fixing until something wrong actually happens lol
  • Can't roll up two windows at the same time: one will start going down. Also sometimes can't do auto up, otherwise it'll switch direction and go down. Also intermittently stops working, but hitting the door panel makes it work again lmao. Hopefully just the window controller and not a wiring issue, will replace once it actually becomes unusable.
  • Seat adjustment sometimes doesn't want to go forward, slapping the side of the drivers seat really hard makes it work again. Maybe dirty limit switches.
  • Passenger front seat doesn't recline all the way like the driver side, idk if they have different limits or if it's actually an issue.
  • Memory settings, when pressing a preset, will cause driver side mirror to extend all the way in one direction. Maybe bad memory chip in the controller, but I just manually adjust as needed. All other settings are remembered correctly.
Overall, it's little things that just build up to become kinda annoying. The engine has been very reliable thankfully, never had an issue with it, but the electronics and suspension leave a lot to be desired. Some of it I can't be bothered to fix, but there are some issues (like ride smoothness) that I can't figure out and I feel like I'm being gaslit by other shops and the dealer into thinking there's no issue, but would love to fix ASAP lol
