  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have 2022 G70 and the front windshield got cracked due to some flying rocks while driving in highway.
The damage is significant enough requiring replacement of the windshield.
I went to the local dealer and found that:
cost of windshield: $1550
cost of installation/recalibration ADAS: $800
Total cost of replacement:$2350

Does this seem reasonable? The dealership doesn't do windshield replacement itself and will call in 3rd party installer to install the new windshield and they will do the recalibration of ADAS. I've never had windshield replaced before so I wanted to see if above costs are reasonable or the dealership is adding on a lot of margin.

Thank you

Welcome @lwjw0808! The costs are reasonable. Also, you are correct in that dealerships use 3rd party glass vendors for windshield replacements.

You are going through your insurance right? There is no need to pay out of pocket for windshield replacement, unless the cost is less than your collision deductible. In the case of our G70, it was. However, that was with aftermarket glass though, since ours does not have HUD, so non-OEM glass works just fine. If yours has HUD, let your insurance co know and see if they would approve OEM glass.

Dealer service dept. don't typically do automotive glass replacement. They can order the OEM glass, but that's about it.

Unfortunately the cost for that windshield replacement for OEM is about right. The labor cost seems a little steep.
Personally I prefer OEM everything especially on a fairly new car. I have seen to many issues with after market glass that far exceed any issue I may have seen with OEM glass, but this is just my opinion.
The main thing is you want the job done right.

Good luck 🍀

I'm on my 4th OEM windshield and the most it has cost my insurance is $1850 Canadian. But these were pre-Covid days. Maybe now the cost has gone up like everything else. If you don't have a HUD, then a non-OEM glass may be OK, but it may be noisy apart from any quality issues if any.
Good Luck!
