  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70
My 2023 G70 I purchased new developed very heavy condensation in both headlamps at about the same time. Service Advisor at Rick Case Genesis here in Florida admitted they've had issues with ''some of our model's". Upon inspection they found a tiny, tiny scratch in the right headlamp that I have no doubt was there from the get-go. Told me the warranty would absolutely not cover that headlamp due to that scratch. So....this scratch is the cause of condensation in the R headlamp...so then buddy what is the cause of the L headlamp? Hummm? Anyone else have issues with this?

I've washed my '23 a few times at high-pressure (manual car wash), and no such issues, at least so far. Probably a sealing issue.

Thanks. Absolutely it has to be a seal issue but my dealer is setting me up for a warranty denial.

Just went to a different Genesis dealer asking for an advocate for me, the consumer. Apparently since Genesis has sent out a "service bulletin" to Genesis dealers saying the headlight condensation is "normal" for the G70, in his words "Genesis has washed their hands of it. No other brand that I know of, Cadillac, Lexus, Chevrolet, Honda....no other brand would find this acceptable but for some reason Genesis does." o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O Had I known Genesis does not stand behind their brand I never would have purchased this car. I mean...what's going to go wrong in the future that Genesis is going to wash their hands of?

I have the same issue and the same reply from my dealership. They say they found cracks in the lamp covers but i think it is stress fractures due to poor material/design.

Exactly. I used to work for plastics injection molding company and the scrape on my headlamp looks exactly like plastic does when it scrapes coming out of the mold itself. I did find a dealer willing to replace under warranty, but I'm also afraid because they have to seriously take much of the front of the car apart to replace the headlamp and that opens up a potential new can of worms on fit and refinish. Mine eventually dried out but had heavy rains last night and it's back. I'm on the fence about going for replacement of just leaving it be. Love the car. Hate this flaw. It just makes the car look cheap. If you really want to get yours replaced contact Hyundai Corporate customer service and open a case. That's what I did and Michelle at that center really went to bat for me. This dealer willing to work with me did tell me it's around $2500 to replace a headlamp so going the warranty route is the better option.

My dealership wants 5636.56$ to replace both L&R headlamp assemblies. This is crazy

Moisture in the headlamps will eventually cause other issues internally on the reflective surface such as pitting or discoloration. A scratch should not bother anything, a crack on the other hand is a different story. I can see the dealer being shitty about a cosmetic scratch, but unless you impacted something, a crack is a manufacturer's defect and should be covered under warranty just like a paint defect or blemish. Normal vehicle usage should not crack the headlamp to allow moisture in.

Pulsar, absolutely agree. Where the scratch is IF I impacted something then the metal that is .10 inch away from the scratch would also be damaged, and it isn't. kmiller, I strongly recommend Hyundai Corporate customer care. In fact, here is Michelle's direct number: 833-462-8723, Ext 65115. The more complaints about this problem to Corporate care the more likely a recall could be issued.

My dealership just informed me that Genesis is going to replace these defective headlamps under warranty. I only hope the new ones have been improved by material, process and/or design to not crack and leak moisture into them. Any thoughts on how to protect them Ana lid this condition?

I'm glad Genesis is owning up to this. Headlight condensation is not normal. I live in humidity hell here just off the Gulf Coast and have had many many different cars, lots of them are Hyundai/Kia/Genesis, and none had headlight condensation problems. Minor scratches and/or cracks should not cause condensation to occur. I've had old cars, some 8+ or even 10+ yr old, that had headlamps that yellowed with age and sustained more scratches than Ozzy Osbourne's itchy scrotums... yet never fogged up even on the rainiest/muggiest days.

Got the same issue in right headlight after car wash. Napleton Hyundai in Aurora, IL mentioned that Genesis is aware of the issue and have redesigned the seal on replacement headlights. I am getting mine replaced today.

New head lamps have been in for a week and through a couple of touchless car washes and no condensation.

I am having the exact same problem with my 2023 GV70. Dealer says warranty will not cover, and insurance says no physical damage so they won't cover either.

Contacting Michelle about mine too. Thanks for posting the name/number!!

Only 2300 miles and haven't experience this yet so keeping my fingers crossed.

But I have to say, the headlights on these cars, although they look great, perform terribly. They have a very limited field compared to other cars I've owned. I wish they were directional, swiveling with the steering. A right-hand turn at night is almost eyes-closed.

All of these headlight problems with only the new members here, or with low post counts. Interesting. I hope you all get your problems fixed. there is no reason these would be denied warranty repair.

And you all know there are desiccant bags in the back of the lights, right? They are easily replaceable and they actually made a TSB for it. Seems weird that they did not start with that first.

I noticed fog in my headlight on my '23 gv70 back in May and called the dealership. I was told to wait until my next service and they would assess/replace the headlight. The service was last week and when I took the car in. For the first time in 4 months, there was no fog and also some sizable "rock chips" had appeared, according to the tech. I was told that they would not honor the warranty and replace the headlight because of the damage, even though I had photos from May where there was no damage. Upon cleaning the bugs off of the car, I noticed that the "rock chips" were actually cracks originating from inside at stress points. There is no damage to the paint near the "chips", as you can see and are all on the edge of the plastic and clear breaks leading back into the lamp housing. I am going to take further steps to see if I can get them to replace under warranty. At this point, the car has had the gv70's problematic locking rear diff and transfer case problems, so here's hoping this is the last of the known issues that I encounter.
