Dealer charging $3.2k for fuel injector replacement

I good mechanic knows to look for that, and promptly changes the oil. Running rich or a stuck injector has ruined an awful lot of engines (usually bearings go first), regardless of size or make.

300 pour in is kinda pricey. Driving from Vegas back to SoCal was a huge difference in gas usage for sure, between the new fuel injector and new spark plugs. Usually I use 60-70% of the tank on the way home, but this trip managed half a tank with plenty of AC use.

Thanks for sharing the update. It's good to hear you're back on the road. Hopefully the dealer is reasonable and compensates you for some of those costs.

The ten year powertrain warranty is better than what most manufacturers offer but it's not nearly as comprehensive as one would likely think. I don't believe it covers anything electronic, for example. It's mostly just the mechanical bits that are covered. I believe seals are also covered.

Its $60 for both oil and fuel additive. Where did you get $300?

I'd love to take it to another shop, but the car doesn't seem safe to drive. I might have to figure out a tow truck to bring the car to a different dealership or something so I can at least get evidence there really is something else wrong besides the injectors.

Adding to the story, when I went to pick it up, they were pretty shady about it (plus terrible customer service attitude, despite them being the ones who told me it was ready and it clearly wasn't). It seemed like they either wanted me to just pay for the spark plugs and take the car away, or sell them the car at that laughable price.

Our 2016 Genesis did this exact thing last night. Check engine light blinking and strong smell of fuel. Took it to our trusted mechanic and all the left side cylinders are filled with gas. Replacing all six injectors at a cost of $2200. Each injector is $279.

True, the 10year warranty is only a power-train warranty which do not cover many wear items like sensors, lines/hoses, or suspension parts. Still better than many other manufacturers who rarely goes pass 5 year/60k miles on their power-train warranty.

The Genesis is only fully covered by a 5year/60k mile warranty.

I am suspect of the dealer where the car is at. Hence, I still would contact Hyundai. They can get the story and get this car somewhere there is a competent mechanic.
Fuel system failure? Sounds like horse sh.. to me.

I'm looking to purchase a 2022 GV80 w 8K miles. Carfax and the dealer show that the fuel injectors were replaced at mile 5K. Wondering whats going on. Looking at the records it shows warranty covered it (prob because the miles were so few).

Hard to say, maybe a bad run of fuel injectors from the part supplier that affected a number of vehicles with certain VIN numbers. Issues like that happens on nearly every make and model from time to time.

It may not prompt a recall, but maybe a TSB for dealer service bays to look out for.
