  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This article doesn't mention Genesis, but it does list the Stinger, and Lambda engines (among others).

It may be interesting to see. A quart every 1000 was considered normal years ago and the guy complaining now has 140,000 miles. I hope he has records showing the oil was changed at proper intervals. I wonder if they have published specifications on consumption to back up whatever they will claim.

Some of us remember checking the oil with every gas fill up.

When I was young the garage floor under my father's car was damp with oil all the time. He kept plywood or cardboard there to help locate the leaks and "protect" the cement. The engine block was coated with grease and cooked petroleum fluids. This was not an unusual situation for any car owner at the time. Ed and I are the same age or near enough to make no difference.
Today the tolerance is so much better. Anyone with a classic car is aware of this.

Disappointed to hear about this since I went through the consumption problem with my Audi A4 2.0. I can't find much information about the root cause of the Hyundai consumption issue, other than some sites pointing to PCV problems.
The Audi issue was a bad design for the oil piston rings. The oil return slots in the rings were very small and became plugged over time, rendering them useless. It seems the problem was exacerbated by the increase in oil change intervals suggested by Audi.
Any insight into the Hyundai issues?

The good news is that I haven't heard of anyone complaining about excess oil consumption on this forum (for any of the engines)
My 3.3T G70 uses essentially no oil between oil changes. However, I've only got about 20k miles, so it's early yet.

Well....I have the same Theta II on the G70 and so far it is not consuming any oil at ~142K kms. Fingers crossed...as it is at the age where most Theta II's spin a couple of rod bearings.

my 2024 Genesis gv80 is in the shop now with this issue and it has 5400 miles on it

Sorry to hear this. I see you do a lot of driving. That's a lot of mileage for a 2024.

Well we had 2 trips in a month that accounted for 4000 miles.

My new 2024 GV80 has gone through 2 quarts in 7300 miles. Taking it in to the dealer next week and hoping they respond properly.

They may tell you that is normal and expected. I'd say a quart maybe, especially when new.

That said, I don't recall the last time I had to add oil between changes. It has been years since I bought oil.

Which engine do you have?
