  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Below is a copy of the email sent to my local Genesis dealer for help on snow tires for my 2023 GV70 EV

I am considering using 19" snow tires on my 2023 GV70 EV Prestige. Can I use GV70 19" wheels on my GV70 EV?

Below is the reply from the Service Manager:

Good morning, Ron
It is not recommended to put snow tires on an all-wheel drive car, this can affect the operation of several safety systems.

I guess all the AWD vehicles owners in Canada and the snowy climes of the US didn't get the word about not using snow tires.
Has anyone else received such advice?

Couple of thoughts. Perhaps he was thinking you'd put two tires on the rear and leave the front as is. I'd agree on that. He may not have thought it out.

Would I put snow tires on? Well, sort of. I'd not put on the snow tires with the big knobby tread that don't ride all that smooth. On my last three cars, two were AWD, I put on Nokian WRG3 tires. They have an actual snow rating, but they look like and perform like regular tires. They were designed for year round use in North America.

I spoke with someone at kaltire about putting wrg4s on the GV70 and they are v rated not w rated. Which, while not an issue for winter only use, he said that leaving them on all year round could result in faster wear due to the weight of the car.

Thanks for the feedback. I checked with the SMgr, he said he was referring to using snows on all 4 wheels.

Living in Edmonton, I wouldn't care what they recommend. Better to wear down some tires than write off your car. There is no way I wouldn't put snow tires on any vehicle here! That sounds ridiculous to me...

It would be interesting to get his reaction to the attached - a 30 page brochure from Genesis Canada listing various options (sizes and tire brands) of winter wheel/tire sets for every model they sell.

Thanks very much for the information and for taking the trouble to attach the catalog. Maybe there is an equivalent catalog available at dealerships in US States that get lots of snow. I'll try to run that down. The prices are much, much less than here in the USA. They list 4 19" wheels & tires for the G70 EV at $3,169 CD which at today's exchange rate is only $2,350 USD. Be Well.

I definitely wouldn't buy them from the dealership. I bought my Michelin X-ice tires from Costco for about $1,100 and custom wheels from Wheel Wiz for about $1,200. Better products, better price.

Unfortunately, there is no US equivalent of the Canadian Wheel & Tire Catalogue.

Agreed - my point was to demonstrate the stupidity of a dealership saying not to use winter tires. When I was looking at wheels and tires, building a set myself was ~ $650 less than the equivalent dealer set - all I was missing were the Genesis centre caps and I was able to choose the wheels I wanted. I've ordered Michelin X-ice Snow for the GV70 and my wife's new Q3 which I believe arrived in Halifax yesterday. Simply Tire is my go to in Toronto as they consistently beat everyone else on price.

I recently purchased a set of 19" Euro Design wheels similar to what dhuhtala purchased, for my 2023 GV70e. The factory wheels are 20" Since then I have gone to our local Costco distributor to see about purchasing a set of 19" Blizzaks for the wheels. I was told that Costco's policy is to only sell the same size tires as came with the vehicle so they would not sell me 19" tires. So, I will have to purchase them from a regular tire shop.

Haha, so tired of silly policies. If you take loose wheels to a Costco, they will sell you whatever tires you want. I do that all the time. If you have to, just tell them it is a GV70 (leave out the "e" part).
