  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Today I was able to open the trunk of my 18' G80 w/o my fob or credit card key...

...but not able to close it.

I had my wallet in my back pocket, so I just figured I had the CC Key in there, but when I hit the close/lock button, nothing happened. Opened the wallet...no key there or in my pocket.

My garage is detached from my home and both my fobs and CC style key were in a kitchen drawer.

Not sure if this is a known issue, or one off, but one that caught me off guard as to how it could happen given how close/proximity I have to have to get either the fob or CC key (especially) to open my trunk automatically.

The trunk will open without the smart key or smart card if the doors are unlocked.
The trunk will close from the close button without the smart key or smart card.
The trunk will only close from the lock button if the smart key or smart card is in range.

Unfortunately the trunk would not close (via close or lock buttons), which is how I came to learn I didn't have either the fob or CC key on me or even near me. (though, I will go out there and try and replicate).

That is strange, as the close button should work without the smart key. Mine does.
As far as it opening, was your car indeed unlocked?

Hey do you have to change your credit card key fob battery frequently? I get a low battery notification every couple of months.

No. I've had my CC Key for ~2 years'ish +/- and still going strong. Though, I now have to ask where the low batt alert displays?

It'll be in the center screen between your gauges. It'll show a normal key fob and it'll say low battery when you turn the car off. I'll take a picture of it next time.

I was able to confirm that I was in fact able to open/close my trunk w/o my fob/cc key provided the doors were unlocked. Somehow I must have not done that when I posted my original OP (meaning, I was ONLY hitting the trunk/lock button and not just the close button).
