  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,

I have a new 2023 G70. I’m looking for a way to easily set route guidance to avoid freeways - as I live in SoCal and it’s often easier and quicker to take surface streets depending on the destination. Is there any way to set this preference, or better yet toggle freeways on and off?

I’ve found “prefer freeways” and fastest and most economical. But after lots of searching I haven’t yet found No freeways. Does that not exist on this car?

Thanks!

Did you uncheck the "prefer freeways"?

I need to play with the settings more, but I don’t believe I have it checked. I don’t think I saw any check marks though. I think I have fastest selected. It still chooses freeways every time even when it’s just a few surface streets from destination

Theres no checkmark option for prefer freeways. Any other ideas?

Consider using Waze. It's better all-around. There is no "avoid freeways" option with the Genesis standard navigation. Sometimes you can select an optional route, but you have to decide quickly or it defaults to the quickest (which usually selects freeways).

That’s what I’m doing. But of course the g70 also doesn’t have wireless CarPlay so I need to plug the phone in each time. Or Kinda lame for a luxury vehicle to not have wireless CarPlay and not have “avoid freeway” option

I hear you on the wireless CarPlay issue and the G70 not having an "avoid freeways" option in their Navigation app. Most luxury level cars have wireless connections but unfortunately Genesis is late again. I've grown accustomed to using my 12" cable, but I surely would love to have wireless. By the way, I'd guess that 75% of the time I prefer a route without freeways. I'd rather add 10 minutes to my route and avoid the crowded freeways.

Same. I live in Los Angeles - also 75% of time I’d rather have a much more relaxing leisurely drive on surface streets. Especially when navigation has me getting on 3 separate freeways, sometimes hopping on one just to go one or two exits. It’s exhausting. “Avoid freeways” is such a basic way of driving. So confusing that they wouldn’t include it as an option.

I finally found in route overview, you can uncheck a certain road or freeway to avoid it. But of course that’s not helpful in la. It just routes you to three other freeways if you avoid the one freeway it suggested. Very silly.

LOL! Yep, navigation can be frustrating when it doesn't do what YOU want it to do.

I used to live in Long Beach. Many years ago, but the freeways were packed back then, too.
