  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A new report from Asiae informs that Genesis is currently developing a new rear-wheel-based hybrid system. Due to electric vehicle market recent slowdown, Genesis plans to expand electrification and for the first time will not bet everything on the same card, providing a variety of options to respond to the market demand.

Based article published in the newspaper as of today, Hyundai Motor Group R&D Center recently embarked on a rear-wheel-based hybrid development project and is recruiting development personnel in-house. Currently, the Genesis brand is the only one inside the group that does not have a full hybrid model. Both, Hyundai and KIA hybrid systems are based on a front-wheel drive system. Read more...

...and discuss...

Excellent news. Let’s hope they package it to fit a sedan variant, and they make a V6 hybrid as well for the top tier. (Too much to hope for the return of the V8.)

Yes, I like the news as well - as me - personally - I'm not ready for a full-on electric car yet. But I love the idea of hybrids - and I believe with more research and development, we can see 100 miles per gallon in a full size luxury car...

Woohoo, but a big “Duh” on the part of Genesis executives. AND, by the way, what would be so wrong with an FWD hybrid in the Genesis model line? Not everybody is an Autobahn racer. Me, I just want luxury.

Think about all the executives of other brands who still haven't thought about this... :o

Yes, but Genesis is our team. A good team always has a Plan B ready.

Clickbait as usual from the Korean Car Blog. Source says nothing about Genesis. This is most likely for the BOF trucks that Hyundai/Kia have been developing for a while now. These will be sold primarily in regions like the Middle East where electric simply isn't an option.

If Genesis were truly walking back on their EV plans, they would have already announced it.

So, given the softening of the EV market, what exactly are their plans? Chaos, or a plan B?

Doesn't look like it's softening for Hyundai. ;)

Maybe Ford, VW, Toyota, and the other legacy brands just need to make better EV's instead of excuses.

Good luck to Mr. Muñoz in his next job.

It is softening for Genesis according to this.

Been a no-brainer from the beginning (planning to skip hybrids was silly).

Since HMG is hybridizing the 2.5T for the likes of the Palisade and Telluride (and likely for the Santa Fe, Carnival, pickups, etc), would just have to adapt it for RWD/AWD application.

Not surprised about GV60 production as have stated that it's been pretty much a dud.

Otoh, the eGV70 is one of the quicker turning lux EVs.

Genesis has sold 4,788 EVs thru Oct.

No source cited, worthless clickbait as usual from KCB.

^ TKCB cites and links Asiae as the source.

Right now, it appears that it's nothing concrete other than Genesis tinkering with the possibility of adding an HEV powerplant, a reversal of their previous stand.

I was talking about the GV60 article.

KCB made another recent boo-boo by claiming that the G80 Performance concept was going to be sold in 20 units, confusing it with the One of One GV80. Amateurs.

^ Don't think TKCB pulled the 2 month halt of GV60 production out of thin air, as had read about it before TKCB posted the story.

I haven't seen a single article about it outside of KCB's, or sites afterward referencing KCB. If anything, it's contradicted by the aforementioned Reuters article about Hyundai halting ICE production for two months to ramp up EV production.

The handwriting is on the wall. Think about it. There are few stand-alone Genesis dealers. What’s the incentive to build more if EV’s are not selling AND Genesis also says they are going to stop building ICE vehicles?

“At the same time, a bombshell Consumer Reports survey recently revealed that EVs spur nearly 80 percent more problems for car owners than gas-powered cars using traditional combustion engines.“
