  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I’m new to Genesis and the GV80 I recently purchased. It was a little surprising to see all USB A plugs in a 2023 model, but understand nothing much changed since this generation was released…so I guess it makes sense.

Has anyone attempted to upgrade any of the plugs to USB C? I tried searching on this to no avail..

Thanks in advance.

Quite easy if that's what you want. Amazon.com

It's easy enough to use these.

Thanks for this, though my idea was to replace the OE plugs with USB C plugs found in another Hyundai/Genesis product or with an aftermarket option coupled with OE mounting plates/brackets.

Perhaps no one has taken this on just yet.
I get what you're asking - adapter's are a fairly obvious easy choice, but a clean upgrade to full flush USB-C would be nice and clean.

Way too much effort when you can grab an usb a to usb c cable. There isn't any additional current behind the panel that you would be able to tap into for faster charging. So what would the upside be here for such effort?

Agreed. I had earlier suggested the tiny adapter which plugs right into the existing port. But I guess some of the guys are looking for perfection and are willing to go above and beyond to try to achieve it. So you'll see posts on taking apart your doors to change lightbulbs and endless experimentation to add subwoofers etc. I'm pretty happy with this vehicle just the way it is.

We all have those odd things that annoy us, but not bother other people. I know I have mine. So, like you, I don't care about it, but I do understand that someone else might. Or just buy a new cable.

It's not about a clean upgrade. USB C is a different standard all together and an order of magnitude more powerful. USB A is going to be limited to ~10W charging.

USB-C PD can charge your laptop at 120W and use different voltage which are more conductive to charging and less loss in transfer. While your phone can likely only handle 35W max, it will always be slow charging on a USB-A port. The USB C PD standard is the future .

I'd also like to find a solution. I'm buying parts now to do an in-dash wireless AA upgrade and then figure out how to plug the USB hole with a USB-C PD port.

I do not endorse the automatic ad link provided in my last message. If you buy any of those adapters, it will likely result in parasitic power draw leaving you unable to start after a week.

What do you not like about the built in AA wireless that you want to upgrade it?

There is no built in AAWireless on the 2023 G70. I must use a dongle. The 2023 GV70 (wife's car) got an upgrade, but the G70 did not. I'm going to have a hole when I do the in dash AAWireless and I need to get a fast charger

That sucks. I wonder why?
I was 68th investor in the AA wireless device when they wanted funding to build them. It worked great on my Audi. When I got the Genesis, I tried every setting on the thing and could not get it to stop dropping the signal every 5 minutes. I ended up getting a Motorola and that worked on my genesis. I was even happier when Genesis came up with the wireless upgrade.

I built my own for my Veloster using a RPI before Hyundai or Genesis even had Android Auto. But I figure an AA Wireless 2.0 should handle the power draw issue and be more compatible with the unit.

I found that in order to connect my Pixel 9 Pro Fold to the Android Auto via USB, I had to disable Apple Carplay. It would not connect and an AI suggested it's an inappropriate handshake from the head unit. I dont know what's up with it but my dealer said the 2023 G70 used the old media unit and the GV70 had an upgrade.
