  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As the title say have 73,000 miles on my 2012 and took it to the dealer. I was experiencing oil loss. Dealer said the valve cover gasket failed causing oil to be pushed out at the point of failure. Warranty covered but it runs out at 75,000.

Two questions
1. Has anyone had this happen
2. Anyone recommend an extended warranty company for after the Hyundai warranty expires.

Service writer BS or 2nd engine extended warranty?

I smell service writer BS. Haven't heard of that issue before here on the forums. The 2012 5.0's burned oil due to loose piston rings. So yes it's possible, but unlikely.

Unless you have an extended warranty, there is no 75k limit on any factory warranty coverage. Original owners get 10/100k powertrain and 5/60k everything else. Non-original owners get 5/60k everything.

Only thing I can think of is that you're 2nd+ owner and the original owner had oil burn and had the short block replaced and the tech who rebuilt the engine didn't too a good job on the head gasket, then I could see them having extended the 5/60 warranty out to 75k to cover the new engine...

Not all 2012 5.0's had an oil consumption problem. It had something to do with the manufacturer of the piston rings which was changed early in the production year once the problem was found. (I had a 2012 5.0 R-Spec with NO oil consumption problems).

Are we talking about a leaking VALVE COVER gasket or a HEAD gasket? Totally different things there...

Yeah Msirockman said valve cover not head... I had head removal-replacement stuck in my ... uh ... head. :whistling:

I agree that it is likely the dreaded 2012 5.0 oil consumption problem that resulted in Hyundai replacing a lot of engines. If it was the valve cover leaking, that should have been clearly visible.

Like Gunkk, I don't understand the claimed 75K mile warranty. If the car was purchased used from a dealer as a CPO (not all used Hyundai's sold by dealers are CPO) then the drivetrain warranty up to 100K miles or 10 years (normally only for original owners) is restored. I can't imagine that anyone purchased a warranty to extend from 60K to 75K miles.

All warranty information provided above applies to USA models only. Hyundai's sold in other countries have different warranties.

I have a leaking valve cover also that needs to be changed. Anyone tried to attempt this procedure themselves?
