He mentioned that the Equus would start at just under $50,000. I wonder if that is really the case? All I have heard before is that it would start at $55,000 at least. Also, at only 2000 units a year, wouldn't that result in dealers charging a premium for one of the limited number of cars?

Only time will tell regarding a dealer premium.

But it will only be available in selected markets, probably meaning large volume dealers near big cities, so 2,000 -3,000 while modest may be very reasonable and can always be increased if demand is there.

You betcha dealers are going to charge a premium. Matter of fact, dealers already (try to) charge a premium on the Genesis. They all have the "Bump Up" sticker next to the MSRP sticker. If customers don't buy, the premium and price will come down.

When I purchased my Genesis, I paid less than MSRP, (but well above invoice) however my closest dealer wanted a $5000 premium (bump-up sticker) and would not budge. Also in late 2009, a friend tried to buy a 2009 4.6 and again, that closest dealer still would not budge from that $5000 premium. My friend purchased elsewhere.

As for selected large markets, one of the dealers I visit is in Orlando, yes a large market, however the other is in Leesburg. One would think Leesburg is a small market, however Leesburg is right next to "The Villages", a large retirement community and dealers seems to think that retired people have a lot of money to spend. (Some do, some don't).

I always tell people in my county (Lake County) that you can't buy a car in Lake County. That is, dealers here think everyone has retirement money and will pay a lot vice visiting other counties. To get a deal here, you must go to Orange County, or elsewhere. I purchased cars in Orange, Volusia, Polk and Sarasota Countys, but never in Lake County, as dealers just will not deal.
