  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Oil drain valves. Anyone here use them? https://www.fumotousa.com/cars-pickups-genesis-2018-g80-3-8l-v6

Have a 2018 3.8 & wonder which one fits? Have them on a different car & they are time savors. I put plastic tubing on the nipple with a hose clamp & drill a hole for the tubing (leave it in place). Drive car up onto the ramps, put catch container under tube - open valve & come back in the morning.

Not to many do it yourself-ers /motor heads here I see.

Never used one. I don't consider unscrewing a bolt every 5K miles much of a bother/trouble.
Adding this valve increases chances of a leak or valve opening accidentally.

Too each their own.

Maybe we just don't have much to say about it.
Personally, I use Fumoto valves on my cars.
Still unsure which one to buy. 2 different thread sizes

F-106, M14-1.50 thread. (on my 3.8, anyway)
I also needed the ADP-106 adapter.

Thanks. 70 year old guy likes to crawl under cars once (with out removing bellie pan) & flip a valve & let it drain over night.

Valve arm has detent. These are quite common on aircraft. You also don't risk damaging oil pan threads removing & installing plugs.

That is a valid point. Most cars it's a steel bolt going into an aluminum oil pan. Threads on pan are prone to getting stripped. I learned my lesson many years ago having to fix the oil pan drain hole with a heli coil because I cross threaded the fill plug.

I'm seeing the same. I came from a BMW and forum where EVERY owner was elbow deep into their cars. Very interesting to me how different vehicles naturally attract different types of owners.

My daughter had a BMW for a while. My memory may not be 100% accurate, but as I recall, it seemed like I had to do some repair or maintenance on it at least once a month, maybe more. So far (in contrast), I've hardly had to do anything to my G80 other than oil and filter changes.

I use a micro pump and suck the oil out the dipstick tube. Works great and gets 7+ quarts. The oil filter is reachable from the top on the 2015 3.8l v6 using a low profile socket and quality 24 tooth ratchet. No more crawling under the car or removing undercovers. Have pictures but they're too big to post.

Those both worked - thanks. Now I just need to find all the belle pan fasteners the dealers workers left out. Car only has 26K on it - so previous changes were done by the dealer.

I have used Fumoto quick drain valves for 35 years. I did scratch one, but it didn't leak. These are not good for off road cars. I have not installed one on my Gennies, but intend to after we flatten or pave the gravel driveway. I appreciate the part numbers so I can try them on my RWD DH.
