  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm a bit confused about the map update which evidently became available in October. I have OTA updates, but since it's now December, nothing has tried to download over the air. I did get a radio or some OTA update a few months ago, so I know OTA works.

Did anyone get the October Map update over the air, or do Map updates just not download over the air? I updated maps last spring using a memory stick and can certainly do that again. Just curious if anyone knows if the map updates should arrive OTA or not?

Thanks

My 2019, to my knowledge, does not get OTA updates of those sizes. The map updates are usually 20GB or larger. It would take forever for your car to download something that large.

Why not download it to an SD card/thumb drive yourself using the Genesis Navigator Updater? At home, the D/L takes about 10 minutes; it takes another 10-15 to update the car.

I plan to put it on memory stick and download it. Was just curious to see if anyone knew if they deliver map updates OTA. Both of our 2023 GV70's do get OTA updates. You're likely correct that your 2019 doesn't get OTA updates.

I downloaded the Map update to memory stick, and did one of the cars already. Our second GV70 is updating now as I type this. It's great you can start the update and tell the car to keep the update downloading after you turn the car off. It didn't take much time to get the first car done. The 2nd one will be done by the time I head to bed tonight. NICE!

I questioned a Genesis Customer Service Rep about the release of the Oct 2023 update OTA back in October.
In brief I was told a lot of things that did not make any sense including a statement that Genesis did not release the OTA and that MapNSoft did. I contacted MapNsoft and they stated that Genesis releases OTA updates.
I contacted Genesis Customer Service back and was told that the update was in a queue and I would have to wait my turn which could be a couple of months.
I decided to cut through the chase and just do the manual download and I am glad I did as it is now Dec and it appears the OTA update has not been released.
The OTA update has been iffy ever since I purchaser my car in March 2022. The only successful OTA update I have received is the bogus update that caused a problem back in June and the unscheduled release back in Aug.

FYI, Genesis ships the Update on a thumb-drive free by FedEx. I received mine last month. Comes with installation instructions, too.

You could have also simply downloaded the update to a thumb drive on your computer, then put the drive in your car and the car automatically recognizes it and update downloads. Easy-Peasy. The directions on how to do it are also on the update page where you download the update. All told, it took just minutes to download the update to my thumb drive and just minutes to download it in the car.

when necessary I have downloaded the update on a thumb drive and uploaded to the car, but in speaking with a very concerned Genesis Customer Service Representative, the rep stated that Genesis needed to hear from customers inability of not getting or successfully being able to upload OTA updates. The whole purpose of the OTA update was so that customers would not have to take cars into service to have the updating done nor would they have to order the updates or download them to a thumb drive.
When we just accept things as they are, all we do is enable Genesis to not address our valid issues and concerns. If something is advertised to perform a certain way then I expect it to do so unless in this case Genesis states otherwise.

G70s do NOT do OTAs; they have the older infotainment. Mine is a '23, and does not have it. But all other Genesis vehicles with the newer system do, apparently. But there's a different forum for those; they just come here to confuse people. Ha ha.

Have you ever considered that those of us who accidentally post on this thread who do not own a G70, do so not to confuse anyone, but rather because we are confused 😂
Please disregard my earlier reply to this thread as I am a proud owner of a 2022 G80 and for posting on this thread I plea guilty 😱😂

Lol. And I was just kidding, of course :). Hey gang, on the update, I was going to download it just now, and when I inserted the USB with the previous update, the system told me 'the map is already the latest version. Update again?'. I don't think so, right? So am I missing something?

Do you remember when you last updated the map in your car? This update was released in October.

You should be able to display the software and map versions currently installed and compare them to the most recent available on the website.

Just plugged the USB stick again, and the date I downloaded it was August 21 (8/21). Should I redo it then? But it's weird it's saying the maps are the same, no? There are 2 zip folders, one Genesis.USA.0000.V909.010.230616.183304 and the other Genesis.USA.1000.V010.003.230526.105613.

I knew you were just kidding. If the Aug. 21, 2023 is the last update you have I would not try to reload it.

If the Oct. 12, 2023 update is for your car and you are having trouble uploading it. I would contact MapNSoft. If you downloaded the Oct. 12, 2023 update from the Genesis sight, have MapNSoft to direct you to their sight and download to a new USB stick from that sight .

I had a similar issue with an update and MapNSoft directed me to their sight and after downloading to a USB stick from their sight I was successfully able to upload to the car.

It makes no difference which model you have these updates can be problematic and the issues are resolved in the same manner.

Good luck 🍀

I'm just confused, since my last update was Aug 21, and supposedly the last was Oct xx, so it doesn't make sense that I have the latest. But I didn't continue downloading it. If I do, I'm sure it'd download fine, like always, but don't want to waste my time if it's the same indeed. Just confused there's a new update, when my old one is supposedly the latest. Something doesn't add up. That's why I asked if you guys would do it anyway. And no, not having any issues at the moment, but don't like downloading updates right away, since the last 2 times, I had to redo it due to errors. So I waited a while before doing it this time. But turns out apparently nothing changed. Or at least not the maps, which makes sense, since it should be only once a year (or two). So maybe I should wait?

Merry Christmas 🎅
If you have not downloaded the Oct. 12, 2023 update, I would do so as the only thing you have to lose is time. The Oct. update has something that your last update does not. After you successfully upload the Oct. update there is a listing under your software information that says, What is New, this will show you what is new about the Oct. Update. The bottom line is , if the Oct update is the same as your last update it is not for your car and it will not upload.

It sounds like you may have to reformat the USB drive through the uploader application.

I had an experience where I tried to download the update to a USB drive from the Genesis site and something happened and it did not download. When I tried a second time it would not let me download because I had already made an attempt to download it.

I contacted MapNSoft and they had me to go to their site where I was able to perform the download to the USB drive successfully.

Okay guys. The system automatically formats the USB stick, but to avoid issues, will format it now, so it doesn't detect anything, and downloads it as always, to avoid any potential issues. I typically erase (format) the USB stick before, but this time I didn't. Maybe one of those glitches like the still ongoing that you cannot log in, and have to continue as a 'guest'. Weird, huh? But I know the drill. Ha ha. Thank you guys. Will download it right now.
