  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello!

I have a 2011 Genesis Sedan and about a year in a half ago my radio just stopped working, I was driving and then heard a sound like a speaker was blown then my sound and the screen of my radio just completely went out, no signs of life. As I am sure some of you know the display for the AC was also shown on the screen. (Thankfully I have the controls memorized lol.)
Does anybody else have this issue, and what did you have to do to resolve it?

Another weird thing, although it doesn't happen anymore, but when ever it first went out and i would hook my car up with cable to jump someone of what have you the screen would come back on! Still never had the sound but the screen display would show up again until I turned the car off. Then if I turned it back on it would be black again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am tired of using a BT speaker. lol

Thanks in advance! :)

Welcome! Just letting you know that this topic has been moved out of the community lounge and into the first generation Genesis Sedan forum. :)

On occasion I would lose audio on my 2011 Genesis. To essentially reboot the system, I would pull the main fuse on the side of the dash when you open the driver's door. Leave it out for about 15 seconds put it back in and the system may reboot. Give it a shot you never know...

Ugh! I actually have checked all the fuses. When I originally checked none were blown, but I just went a head and switch them anyway just to be sure and still nothing. :'(

NatalieF, just curious which trim of 2011 you own? Any modifications to the car such as remote start, aftermarket alarms, 3rd party audio equipment, etc.? Such details help us help you.

Given that you said the screen worked intermittently after the Bad_Thing(TM) happened, I'd suspect a head unit failure.

I don't know what's involved with Premium and Base head unit troubleshooting or replacement, but I do know that head units in the Tech trims are programmed to specific VINs using Hyundai Global Diagnostic System (GDS)... i.e. at the dealer. No idea if an independent shop can do it with an Autel or similar 3rd party diag tool, but it probably can't hurt to ask. I also have no idea about parts availability these days, nor what they cost to replace, but a several years ago it was on the order of $3000-$4000 at the dealer. I would recommend paying a dealer or independent automotive electrician $250 or so for a diagnosis and see where it takes you. Best case there's a loose connection on the back or repairable harness or connector issue that can be fixed for less $$.

The manual pages below are for the North American 2012 4.6, which is a Technology trim. There was a significant refresh in 2012 which included the audio system, so the below information may not be 100% correct for your 2011 even if it's a Tech trim. But I'll post them anyway if you wish to do a DIY inspection of the many connections & cables on the back of the unit. Good luck!

Hello! I have a 2011 Genesis sedan 3.8L V6, it does have push to start. Thank you for the manual pics, I will definitely take a peak at it and let my husband see what he thinks about it as well, I would hate to muck it up anymore.
