Gv70 windshield rock chips

Update:
Here's anther new model problem. People don't seem to know how to label parts properly.

I had the cracked glass as mentioned above. I made my appointment and went to Safelite. They had to check to make sure they had the windshield (or got it from somewhere).
I got a call later in the day. They removed the windshield. Then found out they had the wrong new windshield. They had to replace my old glass until they got the new one in (2 days later). The windshield had more cracks in it. At this point, it looked like an upstate county road map. This was because when they remove the windshield, they don't exactly do it carefully.

I asked where the problem was. I was thinking that maybe they confused the GV70 with G70 (I think this was not too smart a way to differentiate on Genesis' part).
The manager said he's seen that error before, but this time, it was mislabeled?

Anyway, now got a new windshield. Looks good so far. I think it's actually clearer than the original (less grainy appearing in certain light), but haven't actually been in all light conditions yet. It does have the Genesis logo on the right lower glass.

The glass Hyundai uses is some weird stuff

I have never paid for glass insurance in my life. This thread scared me into it lol.

I've actually noticed that the windshield on the GV70 seems to be "grainier." When the light hits the glass a certain way, it is not as clear as my other cars.

With that said, just a few days ago, I was driving up I-87 where they were doing road work. I heard a crack on the windshield. Looked, didn't notice anything (it was night time).
The next morning, there was about 6 inch crack on my windshield. 2 days later, the crack grew to about a foot.
Now it's a little larger. I have an appointment with Safelite in 2 days. Fortunately, in NYS, we have to have comprehensive glass coverage.
I had a 2015 MB GLK. The windshield was replaced by the MFG of the same glass that’s in my 2022 GV70. Which also got a rock chip from a tiny rock. A Korean MFG. Starts with a F …..
Yes I also noticed the grade of glass is grainier. Sun hits it at special angle and looks Shitty!!

Got my 1st rock chip today😡 My experience with the windshield mfg is I had one on my MB. It is lousy glass, chips easy! Anyone else have problems with their windshields chipping easy?
So I don't know if I should start a new thread since this one is a year old but I got a rock chip this weekend. Safelite did the quick repair but my windshield is also very pitted/ grainy from sand or road grime. I could have the windshield replaced but the tech at Safelite discouraged me from doing so since they would have to order the replacement and have to calibrate all the cameras. That's why I went with the quick fix. Wondering if everyone would recommend that I get the windshield replaced instead. My deductible is only $100. I paid for the quick fix out of pocket so as not to have it affect my insurance but not sure if that's worth it . Would love advice from all of you that have gone through this. It sounds like having the clear windshield might make the hassle well worth it.

Depends on where you live. Many places with snow will be sanding roads and possibly pitting windshields. If you are is such an area, and seem like you are, I'd wait until April.

I live in Arizona where all the trucks have big tires that stick out and throwback rocks. So getting a new windshield, or repairing, is an every 2 year ordeal. I have not replaced the windshield on my GV70 yet, but I only have 4500 miles on it, so give it some time and it will happen.

You are correct. Good advice. That makes sense although I don't know whether insurance will cover it at that point.

It will if you get a new crack in it then...

Yeah. And I just discovered another tiny chip. Only noticeable when the sun hits it just right. I'll wait until Spring. I appreciate the advice.

I have a 2023 G70 Sport. At 2 weeks old, 1242 km, I got a rock chip close to the A pillar, 10 inches up from the bottom, drivers side. Got it fixed at Auto Glass in Calgary 15 hours later. The next morning, I get in the car, the chip had cracked and run straight across the windshield to the opposite A pillar. Directly in my line of sight. With a two week old car, I am going to have to eat the cost of replacing it even though I know I’ll get another rock chip and probably a crack as well in Calgary before the end of the winter.

It is simply unpredictable. In my first week or two of ownership of my GV60P I got a chip on the passenger side. I really didn't want to replace the factory glass and have to have the systems recalibrated so I had it repaired. I can barely see it if I search for it and since then, approximately one year and 12K miles I haven't had another.

Are they still $2-3,000? I would like to know because I'm paying $400/year for glass insurance.

Just for glass? I pay $250 for comprehensive and that includes glass coverage. Glass is not shown as a line item but in FL, they must cover it, no deductible.

I was quoted $1800 Cdn by a local glass place. They told me the aftermarket windshield was more expensive than the dealers!

It seems like most people have overlooked the fact that the GV70 has laminated acoustic glass on the windshield and front door windows (and on the rear door windows in the top trim). Naturally acoustic glass is going to cost more than regular glass, and is likely to be less readily available. Acoustic glass also reflects IR and UV rays, allowing only natural light to pass through. I haven't had any issues so far with any of my GV70s' windshields. *fingers crossed*

I was told by the local Genesis dealership a new GV70 windshield is $4200 Cdn!

Where did you hear this? The windshield glass has to be laminated - "acoustic" or not - it's the law required by NHTSA. And the idea that it reflects IR and UV rays - well - regular glass filters out most of the UV all by itself with no magical properties involved. The only way to reflect IR rays would be a vacuum coating engineered to reflect them, and that would be quite visible in the windshield. That statement sounds like something a service adviser, or dude at the counter at Safeway would say - basically talking out of their butts.

The side glass on the Prestige is "laminated" acoustic glass - just the lamination lessens (but doesn't eliminate) the transfer of sound from the outer glass to the inside glass, it's not magic, euro cars have had it as an option for decades. Dunno on the sunroof (probably since laminated glass rather than tempered would make more sense there, something dropped on it would be less likely to penetrate laminated glass) or rear-hatch (maybe..)

I've gotta remember to look when I go out to the car later - but my WAG is - the glass in the 2024 GV70 models is US glass right from the factory since the GV factory IS in Alabama, and there are several huge auto-glass manufacturers in the US so it wouldn't make any sense to import glass from Korea for a car built in the US. I bet in Korea there are guys complaining about the crappy US glass in their GV70's..

In case anyone forgot - ALL 2024 GV70's (for sale in the US) are manufactured in Alabama. ALL BMW SUVs worldwide are manufactured in South Carolina - I expect we'll see the same from Genesis eventually.
