  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Acceleration hesitancy

I have read in this forum a couple of times where people are complaining about lag and hesitancy when accelerating and I think most of us have chalked it up to turbo lag and how people are driving.

However, I had this happen this morning for the first time and it is a real "thing"! It isn't turbo lag - I've been driving this vehicle since September and it has never done this before.

If I'm stopped and floor it, there is a 1-2 second delay before there is a response - I always thought this was exaggerated, but it isn't!

When I'm driving about 40 KMH in the city - in ECO, Comfort or Sport mode - I can press halfway down on the accelerator - and nothing happens! If I floor it, there is a delay and then a response, but I was very concerned that NOTHING happens even pressing the accelerator halfway down. Interestingly, the fuel consumption gauge jumps up as soon as I press the throttle...but the RPM doesn't change! It seems like the transmission needs to shift down to respond and it doesn't do its job.

I mentioned this to my service manager - and I have an appointment to do some other work on Thursday anyway, so they are going to look at this. They believe that this is a tranmission issue. They are going to reset the electronics on the transmission and they say it takes a couple of weeks to relearn my driving habits and are hoping this will resolve the problem. I'm hoping it's that simple, but I wanted to post this since this is an actual issue!
My 2023 G80 is doing the exact same thing and it concerns me. If I stomp on the accelerator, I expect it to go. I need it to respond quickly. Hopefully, they will fix yours. I'll look for the results of your service on this blog.

Jump ahead update: it was my throttle body. It was replaced and the problem went away.

Well, they said they had good news and bad news. They think they found the acceleration issue and it needs a new throttle body. And they found an antifreeze leak in the water pump so need to replace that too.

The bad news is the parts are all backordered and could take 5-6 weeks to get in.

They expected me to take the vehicle back and drive it until then but I said no - it's dangerous to drive, especially on the highway when you can't accelerate when you need to. It's unsafe as it is. They are trying to get approval from Genesis Canada to keep it there while the parts come in - and that would expedite the parts as well.

So...I'm wondering if I'm getting close to a lemon law situation here too. So far, they have replaced:
* Rear differential
* Steering rack
* A couple of under-body panels
* Driver's side door handle (due to locking failures)
* Now the throttle body
* Water pump

I'm pretty sure that's more than $10,000 they've put into parts for this vehicle! And I don't have a lot of confidence that all these parts will last long term either.

Not sure what to do at this point.
Unfortunately it has to be the same problem multiple times.

I have a 2017 g80 Non turbo 3.5 . I was considering a trade to newer model but after reading these issues maybe I will keep it . How are the 3.5 models ? Are these issues only with the 2.5 t?

Mine is the 3.5 and they replaced the throttle body a couple weeks ago. I've not experienced the hesitancy since. I'm still glad I made the purchase.

Mine (2.5T) was the fuel pump that they had the recall for and it was replaced (just before the recall) and the issue is 100% gone. The car is amazing and I'd buy it again. My only reservation is the local dealer took 3 months and failed to solve the issue (or even try I think). I finally took the car back and took it one town over to a better dealer (I'd bought it from them, it had been one of their courtesy cars) and it was solved in a day. The car is amazing, the dealer I bought it from is amazing, my local dealer is worthless. If you have a decent dealer nearby I'd buy it in a second if I were in the market for a car this nice.

I wonder why there are zero recalls in Canada...?

I have the same issue, last time I took mine for service, mentioned to them and they told they are going to look into it. After few hours they told me it's normal and it is the turbo lag. I've had the car for 2 years now, I can tell the difference when driving. I wonder how I can convince them there is some issue

My dealership had to take a portable code reader on a test drive and then check it when it was having the issue. The trick is to get them to acknowledge there is an issue. I have never had to have that debate with my dealership, which I'm very thankful for. They actually believe me. For me, it was worst when I was driving about 30 KM/H (18 MPH) and then pressed the accelerator about halfway down. Nothing happened. Flooring it would accelerate but only after a long pause.

What really made me worry was driving on the highway at 100 KMH (60 MPH) and I floored it...the RPM would jump up but it would not accelerate at all! It wasn't telling the transmission to gear up...very strange.

The new throttle body fixed all this...though I do still find the turbo lag fairly significant. I think it's because there's such a dramatic difference between non-turbo acceleration and then acceleration when the turbo kicks in! More so than on my other vehicles.

Did they find a problem for the LAG?

I'm having the same issue with my 2022 gv70 for almost a year now, but I'm having trouble convincing my dealership there is actually something wrong. I have taken it to the shop few times and complained, cause the drive was off for me, but everytime they say they can not duplicate the issue and it feels like other gv70. Now I'm having the rpm delay, and I took it to the shop and they are saying this is normal too and only high performance cars won't have this issue

They told me to go back when they have a loaner so I can try to see if it happens on a loaner or not.

I just purchased a CPO 2024 GV80 2.5t. with 13,000 miles.
I am concerned because of the following situation. When accelerating hard ( Foot to the floor and in all modes but worse in Sport) , the car shift a few times then get stuck at 5,000 RPM, bogs down and will not speed up at all. In order to get the car to resume acceleration, I have to take my foot off the pedal and then press it again but not all the way. Is this normal? I hope not, because it is dangerous on highways with short on ramps where the traffic is heavy. I can override this no shift while using the kick down by using the paddle shifter to regain control. There is a Rev limiter (5,000 RPM) at 3rd and it will not shift past it unless I remove my foot off of the switch and then with a delay So, far from a passing switch as it is working now. I will bring it to the dealer when it is due for service as the dealer is 2 1/2 hours away. Thanks!
