  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Electric GV70

What's really odd is the new single-screen infotainment system in the facelifted GV80 is one continuous screen, whereas there's a separation in the GV60 right where the steering wheel would otherwise obstruct part of the display. Maybe the screen on the GV80 will just have that section blacked out or something, but if there's actual content being displayed in that area behind the right side of the steering wheel rim, it would be most unfortunate. For the time being, I cannot see anything I'd trade the eGV70s in for.
I have a feeling that GV80 screen might make its way into the GV70, then again that might not happen until a full redesign...

Oh and any luck getting decent weather for shots of that matte white paint? 😉

No good pictures yet! Weather in Vancouver has been terrible this whole month. The real trick is to get a shot of both matte cars together in a vaguely artistic composition.

This is the only compact electric SUV that might tempt me out of the eGV70.

Good competitor indeed! I've read there's a weird split of the 800V architecture in two 400V batteries when it's not charging at a charger that can provide full capacity, which penalizes charging speeds (On anything between 50-150KW/h).

On the pros side it's probably have even better driving dynamics. Price-wise I'd be surprised if it wasn't a big upcharge compared to the eGV70. Design-wise it's a draw, even the GV70 kind of stole that car's butt. I wouldn't be surprised if the eGV70 would end up more of a rarity on the roads considering the Macan is the high volume seller that allows Porsche to continue building 911's. Wether or not exclusivity is a pro or con is anybody's preference...😉

I'm sure these will become a common sight once they start selling them. The eGV70 will almost certainly be more rare.

Yep. I figured it was the alternative to the GV60P but I was suspicious that it wouldn't be released timely. Now I hear that they will start releasing them sometime this year. I suspect it will be a great crossover.

It'll be a drastic upcharge. I've seen reports of it starting at around $85k. Once optioned-out like the top-tier eGV70, it'll easily be over $100k as Porsche is notorious for over-charging for options. But I do love driving them. My friend has a 911 Turbo S. All I have to say is... WOW!

Proof of this:

Despite some trying to go easy on options (+300$ to have a rear wiper? Really?), none of them could get a price below 100K$, and that's in US dollars, not Canadian pesos.

Makes me appreciate even more how loaded with equipment the Electrified GV70 comes!

The Canadian Macan configurator is up. Yes, it’s firmly in lux tax territory for my build. The Audi Q6 Etron is upcoming which is ostensibly the same car as the Macan ev. It will be a very good car as well.

Yes. I am surprised that Audi and Porsche are doing this now. Other than missing the Porsche mark, the Audi alternative is a much better buy. In the ICE world, Audi and Porsche did not share vehicles so closely. They did the same thing with the Taycan and the GT.

Steve, but isn't the Touareg, Q7, Cayenne, Bentayga, and even the Urus all sharing the same underpinnings? Similarly the ICE Macan and Q5 are essentially the same car underneath, if I recall correctly.

Yes...they share a common platform (as, for example, the GV60 does with the Ionic 6/Kia EV) but otherwise there are major differentiators. Not so much, at least so far, with the EVs. I suspect that, over time, this will change.

In my market, the Audi and Porsche stores are both owned by Penske and are located next door to each other but are clearly separate dealerships. Penske even has a common facility where it unloads new cars and sets them up for the various dealerships (Audi, Porsche, BMW, JLR, MB, etc.).

Do you have a link to the configurator? I don't see the electric Macan on the website yet.

Yes, I was going to get a Macan. But after seeing the price after adding the options I wanted and comparing it to the GV70, the Genesis was the far better value per dollar. And is just as beautiful. They look quite similar to me and I like the Genesis interior better.

Agreed, and it's actually more exclusive than a Porshe, with perhaps less of an associated social stigma because it's just not very well know as opposed to German brands.

That was my thought as well. The major downside to the GV60 is range and I have been driving all over the Valley for a year, charge each night to 80%, and haven't come close to running out of electrons (and I drive it like I stole it). If I want to do a long trip, and the fast chargers are finally up to speed on the interstates, the fast charge capability of the GV60 minimizes the negative impact of the range. If the fast chargers are still not up to speed, then I can rent an ICE vehicle and the total cost of owning a GV60P and renting an occasional ICE vehicle will still be way less than a Macan.

In addition, I like a small car and the GV60 fits the bill. But for a long trip, I will often need a bigger vehicle anyway so renting is a likely outcome. I would much rather have a small, luxurous, fast car every day and rent the bigger one for trips than driving a big vehicle every day.

I agree with what most of you are saying. I'm not really sure the electric Macan is a step up from the eGV70. I'm more keen to add a bigger car back to the family but after being really impressed with the way the eGV70 drives, I think it will quite likely be the next-gen fully electric GV80. The eM platform is supposed to deliver between 700-800 km on a full charge.

I do like the GV60, it has an original silhouette and that's more and more rare these days. Coming from a RAV4 with a cavernous trunk (38cf), the GV70 was already a sizeable drop in storage with 28cf, and I just don't see how I could have crammed all the family stuff going to the cottage with the GV60's 24cf trunk. If it wasn't for that it would have been on my list too, it even has some features absent from the GV70 (Facial recognition, crystal ball shifter).
