Remote start with Connected Services and the kill switch

I've researched this in the manual and online but I'm unable to find any real answers. When I use my phone and connected services to start my GV70, everything operates as it should. However, if I go out and put the dog into his travel crate in the back, moments after I open the lift gate the engine will shut off. I guess this makes sense since the exhaust could enter the cabin are with the lift gate open. The manual also states on page 6-9 of the owners manual "the vehicle will not remotely start if the hood or lift gate is open." While not specially stating the engine will shut off if the life gate is opened, I'm going to assume it should be design and for some reason.

But what is really confusing me is if I use my phone and connected services to start the GV70 then open the driver or passenger door, set something inside and close the door without entering the vehicle the GV70 will also kill the engine. This was confusing and annoying two weeks ago when the temps were extremely cold and a few minutes after starting the GV70 I would open the drivers door to set my hot drink in the cup holder and then close the door to go back in the house to get the rest of my things.

Is anyone aware of a setting to perhaps override this "feature". I don't mind the lift gate kill switch, but the driver and passenger door is a bit of a drag. I suppose I could always throw the keys in the GV70 if I am going to open/close the door without entering. But I'd rather not.

Any ideas?

I thought about it being part of the security system. I've attempted to close the door and immediately lock the doors, but seconds later the GV70 still stops the engine, even with the doors all closed and locked. Just seems odd that even with doors closed and locked the engine would be shut down unless someone gets in and officially starts the GV70. This is the first car I've owned that stops the engine if a door is opened and nobody sits down. The Ford Explorer will continue to run even with the doors unlocked after being opened for the first time same with the GMC dually. The Jaguar does require the doors to be shut and locked again, which is what led me to try that on the Genesis.

I have used the actual key fob so few times to start the vehicle, I might see if the same thing happens when using the fob. I'm not sure it does, but I could easily be wrong.

I noticed the exact same annoying quirk for the same reason! Why not just shut off when you touch the brake like everyone else?!

Anyway, this is what my tests found:

Remote start, car runs for 10mins then off.

Remote start + FOB present external + open a door, car runs for about 25 more seconds then shuts off.

Remote start + FOB present external + open a door but FOB doesn't enter car + touch brake, car shuts off immediately. i.e... the only rule which makes sense.

Remote start + FOB present external + open a door + FOB enters vehicle = Full start. You can now leave the vehicle running, but it can be stolen.

The clue is the flashing Start/Stop button. If it is flashing, car is still in Remote Start mode and will shut off shortly. Once the FOB is detected inside the vehicle, Start/Stop lights steady and car is now running normally.

Once the door is opened, you have X-seconds to hit the brake. Did you open, then close, the door, or was it the kid from down the street that wants to play?

Well if it’s the kid down the street I’m not sure how they got the door open without my key since all doors are shut and locked for any remote start to work. if it’s the kid from down the street with my key to get the door open, I want to car to shut off even if they touch the brake pedal.

If a car thief wants you car, he will get it no matter if locked and alarmed. My friend has hers stolen while she was at work. It was parked on the street just 20 feet from where she sits by a window but it was just out of view.

I think we can both agree if a thief wants a car it doesn’t matter if the doors are locked, the car is alarmed, or if the car is running. Hyundai Motor Group should know a thing or two about cars being taken that aren’t running.

Ford and GM allow doors to be opened and closed during remote start and the kill switch activates if you attempt to put the car into gear. This allows a person to open and close all the doors they want while the vehicle warms (or cools) the interior. Seems like a better option and one I’d love to find on the Genesis if options are available. Because the other annoying thing with the Genesis system is when I open the door for my wife and she sits down and I close the door. The engine shuts off before I can get to my side and crawl in the driver seat.

The point of my post was simply asking if there was a way to avoid the engine kill switch in case I remote start the vehicle and open a door without entry prior to my desired leave time. I ask because of other brands have options and details in the owners manual and I was able to find neither with the GV70 so I asked.
