  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK, my beautiful wife made a slight mistake by cutting a sandwich on the arm rest of our 2018 G80. Needless to say, the really sharp knife slightly cut the arm rest, all the way across the passenger side and a small section on the driver's side. Ugh... So, I'm wondering if I can simply pickup a used arm rest center console piece (found the entire assembly on eBay within close driving distance for about $175) and only replace the two padded pieces instead of having to rip out the arm rest box, which seems like a PITA. The padded arm rests seem to be attached by a few screws but I'm wondering about the spring assembly and if that will be a problem if I remove the padded arm rest. Has anyone done this (not cut the arm rest, but replaced the pads...). :) Thanks!

A vinyl repair person can fix this.

So how was the sandwich? Worth it?
I think there's an aftermarket butcher block armrest available..

Yeah, the sandwich was really good but not worth the agony of seeing a knife-mark on the arm rest. I did manage to buy an entire arm rest console assembly off ebay for cheap so I have the part. I believe its four bolts to swap the entire arm rest console piece and I may end of doing that IF it's not easy to remove ONLY the arm rests. I'd be interested to know if anyone has removed only the arm rest pads and if it was easy to do so. Thanks.
