  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm expecting delivery of a new 2023 RWD G70 Sport Prestige with the Brembo brake setup. After spending considerable time on this forum and Reddit I've come to understand that the factory ceramic pads are a very poor choice for this type of car (prone to leaving deposits, overheating, etc.) and a simple fix would be to replace them with the OEM semi-metallic pads that came on the 2019 dynamic edition. Can someone please confirm that I have the correct part numbers here and that the semi-metallic pads would fit without issue on a 2023?

Factory ceramic pads - 58101-J5A52 (front) and 58302-J5A50 (rear)
Dynamic edition semi-metallic pads - 58101-J5A55 (front) and 58302-J5A55 (rear)

Don't need OEM. I got Bosch for mine. Very very happy with them. Can get them on rock auto.

I got the Hawk Performance HPS 5.0 pads for my G70.

The factory ceramic pads sucked in my experience: constantly leaving pad deposits and causing brake judder (as if the rotors were warped). Pulled the pads and rotors, cleaned up the rotor surface with a DA sander and 120 grit sandpaper (as per the pad install instructions), and reinstalled the rotors with the new pads. Haven’t had a problem since.

Downsides to the new pads (which are semi metallic, like the euro spec Genesis pads): more brake dust and a little noise in the first stops of a drive cycle.

Why not the Genesis euro spec pads? Price - they’re really expensive compared to good pads from EBC or Hawk.

Don't waste money on OEM pads. I believe the Dynamic edition pads are the same Euro Sport pads that came with our 2021 G70 6MT. While they are excellent pads for everyday driving on up to an occasionally track day, there are lots of less expensive aftermarket pads that are just as good, if not better.

I myself am partial to EBC and have run both their Yellowstuff and Bluestuff. The OEM Eurosport is somewhere in that range, probably closer to the Yellowstuff. One thing I like about the EBCs is that they are organic compounds that have high friction coefficient from cold. Plus they are gentler on rotors and don't chew them up like semi-metallics do. The industry in general is moving away from metallic content in brake pads. Copper, for example, can be toxic to aquatic life. Good brake pads aren't cheap, but they are still very reasonable compared to what folks spend on performance tires.

I also prefer to buy pads from big name mfrs that actually do the R&D and mfg of their own brake pads. They typically are able to provide exact specs/characteristics of each of their pad compounds, we well as specific instructions on seating and bedding in of their products. 3rd party resellers that simply slap their private label on generic pads most often don't offer much, other than a bunch of superlatives on how good their wares are supposedly.

Looking to to get some new pads for rear myself since current stock ones are near eol. Do you know if the EBC red stuff pads will fit into stock Brembo calipers? I guess i could check pad measurements but was just wondering if you had to change those as well

Redstuff is a good low dust pad compound for street-only. A good number of reported use on Stinger/G70 Brembos, so should be no problem, as long as you get the correct part number.

I have ebc redstuff pads and they make a huge difference in stopping force. They are a little noisy tho at times..

For what its worth. While I am aware there are many that had a problem with brake deposits I have not. I have a AWD 2019 sport and never ran into any problems. Maybe I drive too slow?

So, if I am reading this right, I am not the only one with brake issues with my G70 (2019)? The dealer replaced the rotors under warranty a little less than two years ago - and I've only put 8k miles since then (only 20k total miles after nearly 5 years). Now the brakes have a definite pulsation again! But, it seems to get worse the longer I drive it (longer trips). Short trips it is barely an issue. Is this the rotors again? Or, a symptom of the pads? Or, something else? Dealer now wants $150 just to take a look, and can't (or won't) tell me the rotors are under any kind of warranty.

It is more than likely the brake pad transfer that everyone is talking about in this thread. If you get out on a good road and do a moderately hard brake from 60-5 without completely stopping, I'd be willing to be the vibration will go away.

The problem will just keep coming back until you get some proper pads. The dealers and Genesis are useless in fixing this. They'll keep doing the same thing, and the problem will keep returning 🙄🙄

💯 correct. Get a aftermarket set of pads, get your rotors refinished per pad instructions, and the problem stops.

What did you end up with on yours as far as pads? I've been doing a lot of research and am still a little unsure as to which ones to get ordered.

I bought mine in Jan 2019. At that time there weren't any (good) aftermarket pads I could find, so I ponied up $400 for the OEM Euro pads. I had never paid that much for any pads before, but I wanted to be done with it. They've been fantastic, but today I'd buy EBC or some similar high performance pad.

When you say OEM Euro pads, are you referring to the OE Hyundai/Genesis "Prestige" semi-metalic pads listed above? Sorry for all of the questions, I just don't want to end up getting the same thing that's already on there.

I'm not familiar with them being called the Prestige pads. In the States, they only came on the Dynamic limited edition and the 2.0 Sport with manual transmission. But they're even more expensive now, so you really want to go aftermarket.

Yes, our '21 G70 6MT came with the fabled Euro Sport pads. Love them, buttoo expensive for me to want to buy the same when they wear out. Instead, I've got EBC Yellowstuff ready to replace. Very similar performance and make about as much brake dust too. Everything has a compromise.

Thank you both. I'm still undecided as to which route I'm going to go with these. They still have plenty of meat on them at the moment, just getting tired of having to "re-bed" the pads all the time.

I have a 2023 G70 3.3T Sport Prestige, and like you, haven't experienced any brake deposit issues. I DID, however, have the deposit issues with my old 2019 G70 3.3T Sport Prestige, along with bad brake shuttering when exiting the freeway with even light brake pedal use.

Sure hope that means Genesis finally wised up and changed out the pad compound in later model years.
