  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Having issues keeping the vehicle within the lane, not sure if it's alignment or something else

If you have ever watched an alignment, there is a lot of subjectivity going on. Yes, the Hunter alignment machine provides read outs on all four tires, but tire pressures, how much tread is left, suspension wear, how much the technician rolls the car back and forth small amounts on the pads all can affect the outcome. If your really anal, you should sit in the car for weight distribution can affect the outcome. I’ve watched an alignment on my sons Honda done by a small specially shop. Technician checked all suspension components, tire pressures, spent lots of time moving the car about slight amounts to try and find the sweat spot. He would make an adjustment then rock the car again to check for repeatability before he locked things down. He said a lot can be seen relative to suspensions parts from an alignment machine. What all this told me was anyplace that does an alignment in 20 minute’s just throws the car on the alignment machine, makes adjustments to within allowed specs and backs the car down from the machine. When you watch a 20 year business owner of alignment shop work, lots more going on than a wam bam quick alignment.

This is where I need to take my genesis. These shops, including the genesis dealer will spend 20 minutes on the car and then I'm left having to trouble shoot and I'm not an expert. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll find a specialty place like this

If you take your hand off the wheel on a highway the car will drift to the right (or if you drive on the left as we do in Australia to the left) because of the roads camber.

Of course, except when my alignment is off its not drifting, it is sliding when I hit bumps which gives my passengers motion sickness. 4 shops have diagnosed it and said the alignment is off and I get that done each time. These bumps are as small as reflectors on the road and shouldn't be enough to unravel the car. This is my third genesis and never had this issue with the previous generation. I'm taking it in one more time then it's time to give up and trade it in

That sounds more like bump steer. Is there any possibility that you have bent a tie rod or something else so the bump steer geometry is all out?

Thanks for the suggestion, ill check this out. I'm not knowledgeable of all the parts and have been relying on the techs at the dealership to diagnose.

Another thing I'm experiencing is a ton of bent wheels over regular bumps, 4 in the last 14 months. I'm thinking the previous owner may have done something to adjust the ride height of this car which would explain the bump steer.

Yes, that would change the geometry

The car seems low but i had the shocks and struts replaced with OEM a month ago and it's still sitting lower than stock. I'm curious to see what's causing this

Hey I just wanted to give you an update and thank you for your help. That term "bump steer" is exactly what I was experiencing and i worked with a dealer that I had luck with earlier. They were awesome and spent time to figure it out. Turns out I have bad lower control arms and they're being replaced under warranty.

The current state of the arms has caused my car to sit lower than stock and threw off the geometry of the car. I appreciate your response, you helped me solve an issue ive had with the car for over a year. thank you.

You are very welcome.

I hope the new lower control arms fix the issue.

Perhaps us retired lawyers from the other side of the world aren’t totally useless. 😊

I thought I'd give you an update. I got the car back after they've been working on it for over a month and it's very smooth 😎. I told them a lawyer recommended the fix lol. Thanks again

Thanks for the update. I was curious. Glad it’s all fixed.

My 2022 G70 has 41K miles with original tires and even wear. I also never get alignments unless there is an issue with pulling or incorrect tire wear. In my prior Subaru I went over 100k miles without an alignment. Being a longtime motorcycle driver, I constantly am scanning the road and almost never hit pot holes which helps.

However, I routinely shut off the lane assist unless on the highway, it annoyingly corrects the steering wheel when I drift to close to the lines on either side of the lane. My only issues have been 2 new windshields from cracks caused by stones being kicked up from a car in front of me and some clearcoat flaking on my wheels.
