In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

You make a good point that the replacement is quick, easy and painless. The reality is that it's not a big deal, it's simply a bunch of gears. You can guarentee Genesis engineers are working on it and once they find the solution it will be permanently solved. So why pass up so a great vehicle? The problem is on them.
Even if it happens a second time, I'd happily drive my GV70 SP. I traded a fully loaded 2019 Mercedes E450 for my Genesis and the Genesis is a far superior drive in EVERY way.

I’m now on my 2nd replacement. I’ve had the car for 7 months and am on my 2nd transmission (first one replaced after a week) and now my 3rd differential. It’s not costing me anything but they should actually fix the problem. Zero issues with our 21 GV80 Prestige.

Here is a brief synopsis of my experience with the differential issue as well as my local dealership. I noticed noises from my drivetrain in early December (10k miles). After reading several posts on this website, I figured it was the differential so decided to have it looked at. It took 2 days to get my repair service as well as the concierge service scheduled. Online, the earliest I was able to make an appointment was March but over the phone the dealership was able to schedule me for earlier this week (mid January).

The concierge picked up my vehicle and gave me a Hyundai Santa fe as a loaner. Later in the day I received a call from the dealership asking me why they had my car and if there was a problem. Someone at the dealership messed up and deleted my appointment from the schedule but they were able to get that sorted out. That night, they called confirming the issue was indeed my differential and they fixed it without replacing the whole unit. I was also having issues with my seat's easy access and memory which needed a system update that was going to take several hours. Because of that update, they kept my car overnight and said they would call me in the morning to bring my car back to me. I waited patient but by around noon I was getting annoyed but decided to give them more time, they must be busy. Finally at 3pm I had enough and started making calls. They must have forgotten about me because when I reached someone at their service department, they seemed confused as to why they still had my car. That evening the concierge returned my car.

Overall my experience was... okay. The repair of the differential fixed the noise and my warranty covered the cost. It wasn't as smooth a process as previous experiences with Acura or Lexus. It took me a long time to get my appointment scheduled but was worth it to me for the concierge service.

Went for ride with the technician and pointed out the noise and he concurred that it is there and not normal. They diagnosed it to be rear diff. This is the second time. Replaced it once before in late 2022. I reported it 7-8 months ago but they said it was fine. This time, I asked to ride with the technician and that was a really good thing. I was able to point it out exactly where and when the noise appears. Anyway, the tech was really good, very thorough and professional. He was checking with Genesis to see what other remedy besides replacement. He wanted a permanent fix which is proper attitude but I'm afraid it will just depend on the quality of replacement unit. I await their response. Hopefully this time it will be successful.

The service itself was for regular 20K service and they did a really good job. On time, courteous and I got my car back nice and clean too!

Whining noise update: Over 5K miles and still perfect.

It is a problem when there is no fix! They are just throwing parts at it and crossing their fingers. I'm a third of the way through my warranty already on my '23. Each part costs $4,400! I have had two replaced already. I know most luxury car owners only keep their vehicles 2-3 years but I plan on 15 for my vehicles. How much would I have to pay over 15 years? Heading into retirement, I can't afford that. If they can't fix this fast, I will have to sell the car. That will definitely not be painless!

How do you figure you're 1/3 through your warranty on a 2023? The standard warranty is 5 years. The powertrain warranty is 10 years and unless I'm mistaken, this should be considered a part of the powertrain? My dealer provides a lifetime powertrain warranty and they were the ones who told me this would be covered under that.

In Canada, they have confirmed for me (recently) that there is no extended warranty beyond 5 years/100,000 KM. So we're screwed if it happens again after this period.
I live in Toronto and was considering waiting a year or 2 for a depreciated 2022-23 GV70 2.5t. This rear differential issue has me concerned for long term reliability.. to buy used. Would you suggest to look elsewhere?

And it appears I am going to have to go in for this a second time. It's been just a little over 2000 miles since the LSD was replaced. Spoke with my dealer this morning as the high pitched sound has returned. They suggested they may need to replace the drive train this time to completely resolve this, which is much more involved than just replacing the LSD. I still love my car though and my dealer is very responsive. I'll know more when they call me back with a timeline to bring it in and get a loaner, but I imagine this won't be a quick turnaround as the first repair was.

I dropped my car off at my dealer today. They said it may be there for some time as this time, they have to get a Master Tech from Genesis to test my car so he can approve whatever they decide will solve the LSD issue. My service advisor says it will likely be replacing the drive shaft. I thought it was the drive train, but it's evidently the drive shaft he thinks may need to be replaced.

But they gave me a 2024 GV70 Sport Prestige to drive, so if I have to be without my GV70 SP for a while, I'm at least driving one just like mine. I'll update this if anyone cares when I know more. I do have to say our dealer is awesome and they really take care of me, so I'm grateful for that.

What is "LSD"? Is that the same as rear differential?

I just got mine replaced this week after waiting about a month for the part to arrive. Driving it home, the noise at 90 kph is now gone. Drives well. I hope it holds this time (it's the second rear diff for me).

LSD = Limited Slip Differential and yes, it's the rear differential. I too hoped that having it replaced would be a permanent fix. But alas it returned about 2.5K mile later and it back in the shop for I have no clue how long this time. I hope you have better luck and it never returns.

I got an update on my car today, which has been at the dealer for just over a week now. The decision from Genesis Engineering is to replace the LSD for a second time, which I'm not exactly pleased about. It seems they are throwing the very same part at an issue, which I am not convinced will be a permanent fix. I love my GV70. And I'm willing to give a second LSD a chance. But I told my service advisor that if it comes back for round 3, I'd have no choice but to Lemon Law it. Which is such a shame for such a wonderful car.

They actually replaced the LSD today, but they have to have another Genesis Engineer drive my car on Monday, before they determine it has been fully fixed. It doesn't make sense to me, to keep putting a $4000 part in a car multiple times. But that's their decision as I honestly don't think Genesis knows how to fix this permanently.

I anticipate getting my car back early next week.

Simliar things going on with 23+ G70s. Fairly convinced it's the diff oil in the case of the G70. The diff appears to be the same since 2018, so the only logical thing is they changed oil suppliers and there isn't enough friction modifier. I'm now on diff #3, including the original.

For me, there won't be a 3rd one. Either this fix works, or it gets lemon lawed.

Are you located in Canada or US? I'm not sure what the lemon laws are in Ontario Canada. Since I had the rear diff replaced (2nd time), it has been running very well. In fact I noticed it is quieter at all highway speeds and not just at the 90kph point where the noise became audible. I suppose this is how it supposed to run! I just hope like you this time the problem doesn't recur. I too like the vehicle very much. For me, they didn't make a big fuss over the diagnosis and repair. The tech came out with me and then looked at the diff and oil and found metal shavings. Remedy was replacement. The work took only 1 day and they drove it afterwards and deemed it all good. I picked up the car the next day. So far so good after a few weeks.

So my G70 got its second replacement diff about a month ago. It started making the same "rrrr" sound after a couple weeks. Last weekend I added friction modifier and the noise is gone. So as many of us suspected, the oil being used doesn't have enough friction modifier for the clutches in the LSD.

I live in the US. My dealer has been in constant touch with me. They're really super testing this at this point. It's been at the dealer now two weeks and they replaced the LSD last Friday, but they don't want to give me the car until Genesis Engineering is convinced it's OK. Whatever that may mean. Since tomorrow will be 15 days since I took the car to them, in the State of Florida, I have the legal right to start the lemon law process, but I want to give them the opportunity to make it right. I'm discouraged, but hopeful.

I do hope your second replacement solves it for you. My first LSD was replaced at about 4K miles. The second at 6.7K miles.

Well, we have an outcome. It's been three weeks and they simply don't know what to do with my car and there is no end in sight. And I honestly don't want the car back, but I actually love the GV70 SP. They know I'm inclined to lemon law it in exactly 9 days, so the sales manager called to say they don't want to go that route and frankly, it's never a fun route and takes a lot of time to go through. So, they're taking my car back and I'll be replacing it with a 2024 GV70 Sport Prestige, in Red, with black leather interior. I will have to pay some money out of pocket (not a lot) and my payment will go up a little, but isn't too hurtful as I had put a LOT of money down on my 2023 in the first place and didn't finance much at the start. I'm hoping this one is like our other GV70 and will be trouble free.

Wish me luck.........

Hello All, I hear a noise that sounds like an electric motor, but it's only in ECO Coasting. Does not happen in Comfort or Sport mode. Do you all think this could also be a diff issue?
