  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is the incidence of valve springs breaking on the 2009 Genesis 4.6 engine?
I have owned the car new since 2009. A different valve spring broke at 55000 miles, 86000 miles, and at 113000 miles in September 2023. The last one also was in conjunction with the timing chains jumping and needing to be replaced. Hyundai covered the first two under warranty but refused the last one.

Hi, welcome to the forum.
It's a shame the dealership didn't just replace all the valve springs while they were in there that far. But, like the saying goes, "hindsight is always 20-20", and I know how that can be. I don't know how often this happens, but if you've already had three of them break, I would just have them all replaced at once, preemptively, if you're planning on keeping the car for any length of time, and probably sooner rather than later.
Did anything else get damaged when the timing chains jumped? That sounds like a recipe for a lot more damage than just broken valve springs, potentially. If there is no other engine damage, then I suspect you got lucky, and maybe you should say "thank you" to the engine by buying it all new valve springs.;) But only if you decide the car is worth it...
