  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Headlight Condensation

Hello all. I appreciate this forum as I too had issues with my 2023 G70 and headlamp condensation. I called Genesis Care and the person was very helpful setting up my case and scheduling it for an inspection. The parts were ordered and about 3 weeks later I have new headlamps all COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THANKS AGAIN for all of the helpful information you gave.

I was working on preparing the GV70 to trade in for something more reliable and planned on replacing the driver's headlight (which is now holding water rather than just condensation) with something off of Ebay so that I can get top dollar on the trade. I saw some pictures of other headlights with the exact "cracks" as mine that the dealership blamed on rock chips that led to mounting screws. I took the bumper assembly on mine apart and found the same thing. The damage that they are blaming on the consumer can easily be traced to their materials and/or installation problems. It is a shame. I had dinner where the GV70 was parked in front of the restaurant and 4 couples walked by and admired the car, but 3 of the couples noticed the water-filled headlight and had negative reactions. Genesis headlight crack.webp

Have you ever used a moisture absorbent for that? You can buy it at ebay.

Ah, after months of back and forth with Genesis Corporate Warranty they replaced the headlight under warranty as a one off customer loyalty (BS).
I had four cracks not a chip and I’m glad you dug deeper into the issue. It’s the screw!
After the replacement I’ve had both sealed with clear 3m wrap.

I received this reply after presenting Corporate with evidence of the damage coming from the screw placement/overtightening:

"Thank you for contacting Genesis Customer Care.

We know this is not the answer you were hoping for, however, we will not be able to assist with your headlight concerns as it has already been sent to Genesis Motor America and has been denied. These decisions are final and cannot be disputed. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact us at the phone number listed below and reference case number 22877706.

Thank you again for being a valued member of the Genesis Family"

I had the exact same response from Corporate Warrenty in

I had the exact same response from Corporate Warranty in Canada. I didn’t give up. I found out who was the Canadian Director and his email address put his name in the Subject box of each email with my complaint and things started happening. He filtered down to the peons and they covered it as a good will. Good luck

WTF? Once they see concrete evidence, and still deny a valid warranty claim? Geez. I already 'dumped' Hyundai after having issues with a 3rd vehicle (out of 9), and losing my a$$ having to sell it, but haven't sold the G70 yet. I plan to keep it for a while, since I'd lose my a$$ on it too, and have no reason to do that at this point. But this kind of behavior tells me I made the right decision. Hope it doesn't happen to my car. If it wasn't a risk breaking tabs removing the bumper, I'd do that, to loosen those darn screws a little, to avoid this expensive problem, and having to deal with those aholes.

I tried going through my state's Attorney General. They were happy to take the case as I provided plenty of proof these cracks are caused by design issues, but received this response from Genesis Corporate:

"Good afternoon xxxx,
Genesis Motor America has already provided 300 dollars in goodwill for this guest for their experience. We have thoroughly evaluated the guest’s vehicle, and two separate teams have come to the conclusion that this vehicle experienced some form of outside influence that resulted in damage to the components the guest is requesting be repaired. We will not be moving forward with any further goodwill or any repairs under warranty. Respectfully".

I am thrilled others have positive outcomes from this, but I will be jumping ship without the fix and taking a hit selling it with broken headlights. Now to decide if I want to gamble with potential problems from a BMW M or something slower but reliable in an Acura S Type.

Have you tried your insurance company?

I think the learning from my own experience plus ‘000 other experiences in this forum is that it all depends on the initial assessment by the service center/dealership. If they want to help the customer, they can get the required help from Genesis. If they don’t want, then it becomes a painful battle. Philosophy aside, most of the folks here got their issue fixed through the service center and it is astonishing that Genesis hasn’t issued a recall.

I called my adjuster, who is a friend of a friend so no claim would be entered and change my rate, and he said that it is apparent there is no external damage and it is a design flaw. Because of this, it is not something insurance would cover. If I were to get in an accident or hit a deer, they would replace the headlight, if damaged.
I agree with @rahulverma4 that it has to do with your first assessment. If the dealership wants to help you, they will file it as a warranty claim and it gets fixed. If they do not want to help, it seems once they document it as customer caused, everyone all they way up to Corporate sticks to that story and you get to pay $2,000 for a faulty headlight.

I battled for months with dealer and corporate before they replaced my headlight under one time goodwill BS. Now the passenger side is doing the same and I’ve had them clear wrapped so they can’t claim chip damage. We’ll see how that goes. Cost was $4400 Cdn plus labor.

My passenger headlight has been fogged for months and they are going through the drying/absorbent pack checklist, but said they will replace it because it has not cracked yet. My guess is that when they remove the trim to replace it, there will be small cracks around the screws that allowed the moisture in.

I hope this is my final update. The GV70 went in for annual maintenance to the same dealership that I have been using. A new service tech helped me and during the walk around pointed out the cracks in the drivers headlight (as well as the start of a visible crack in the passenger). I told him that I had tried all avenues to get them fixed and I expected no solution. He called me two hours later and said I would be getting both headlights replaced under warranty. A few days later, it was given back looking good as new. The story he shared is there is now a bulletin from one of the higher engineers in the company who admits the screws were overtightened during a certain period on the assembly line, so they get replaced. That said, they have to identify the cracks as such and not "rock chips". Good luck to everyone who is dealing with this. It seems there is a solution now.

Only 2300 miles and haven't experience this yet so keeping my fingers crossed.

But I have to say, the headlights on these cars, although they look great, perform terribly. They have a very limited field compared to other cars I've owned. I wish they were directional, swiveling with the steering. A right-hand turn at night is almost eyes-closed.
They're NOT directional? That sucks, the ones on my 2019 are!

The headlights each have a cpu one of the reasons they cost over 4K CDN. You would think directional would a no brainer.

Dealer days they need to install to validate warranty

My 2023 G70 I purchased new developed very heavy condensation in both headlamps at about the same time. Service Advisor at Rick Case Genesis here in Florida admitted they've had issues with ''some of our model's". Upon inspection they found a tiny, tiny scratch in the right headlamp that I have no doubt was there from the get-go. Told me the warranty would absolutely not cover that headlamp due to that scratch. So....this scratch is the cause of condensation in the R headlamp...so then buddy what is the cause of the L headlamp? Hummm? Anyone else have issues with this?
I've had the same issue but they replaced mine. No questions asked.
