  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 real aluminum

What are you even referring to? Sport mode is just like any other mode: Comfort, Eco, Snow......

The only reason I am even answering you if you have been around awhile---however, WHY hide your identity, especially if you wish to be believed?

The dial material on the console you simple one

Good question. Porsche was possibly the leader in making injection molded plastic that really feels and looks like metal. How - dunno - but even on a 15-year-old Boxster some parts you'd swear are aluminum are plastic with some sort of coating on it. My WAG - Genesis is using the same technology.

My question is, do these different drive modes actually achieve anything other than a cool look on your instrument cluster?

I know….read the owners manual

I can not answer your question, but my opinion is probably not, they do whatever they can to reduce weight.

The drive mode selector is made of cheap plastic and it’s quite annoying.
Were you annoyed when you checked out the car before buying?

Actually I think the drive mode selector is the most expensive feeling piece on the console, and if I'm not mistaken has a glass insert as well. Although I do like the raised Infotainment wheel, the 1st ideation [flat] wheel actually feels much better to operate then the new one. Wish the current infotainment wheel felt as good as the gear selector wheel you seem to be nitpicking over.

As far a [cheep] goes, perhaps you should spend sometime in a Lincoln or comp; you may get a newly found appreciation for Genesis interiors if you do.

I was hoping that Ricardo Montalban would have put in some Corinthian leather as well. But I can only wish.

Ok, so I had to look that up as I thought you just made up some BS, and sure enough, there is this crustation-looking dude with some [Despicable Me] Minion side-kick going off about how good this fancy vinyl is - in this POS left-for-dead Chrysler.

Who new :)

All the old farts like me know. It was a huge TV campaign back in the day. It became a catchphrase, like when someone would purchase anything leather, one would ask, "is that real Corinthian leather"? as a joke. Those commercials gave Montalban a career resurgence. I saw him get interviewed on TV one time and he admitted that and also that the term Corinthian leather was made up by marketing.

Next lesson, Alexa Hente, the demanding one.

Whatever the metal-look stuff is really made of, they feel substantial. Definitely not a colored plastic feel.

Agreed. The quality of the switch gear was pretty much universally acclaimed by reviewers when the GV80 came out. "Clance" who posted the complaint seems to be on his own here.

Agreed; and all the more disappointing that Genesis eliminated most of it for 2025 especially on the steering wheel. My 1st experience with it was on my 2010 IS-F and I had to look up to see if it was real Aluminum - which it was not. It even seems to have thermo properties of metal which is why it's so convincing.

No, it is not cheap plastic. It is a derivative of the finest crude oil in the world, refined, processed, heated and injection molded to exacting specifications. A lot of science and engineering went into making that knob.

Sure, at the lower end. Cruising on the highway at 60 mph, no difference.

Eco makes the pedal mushy
Normal is acceptable
Sport changes the shift points higher. On the city streets at about 35 mph, normal you'd be in top gear, Sport will hold you back a gear or two for a faster response if you hit the gas.
