  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone subscribe to the theory of needing more frequent oil changes than Genesis recommends re: the 2.5 turbo 4? A few friends have suggested that I should not wait until the Genesis recommended 5,000 or more miles/6 months given the engine type. I previously had V6 Acura MDX and only did an oil change once a year.

Thoughts are appreciated! Thank you.

Conditions vary. I know what I do, but my conditions are mild and "normal". If you live near the Arctic circle and never take trips more than a couple of miles, I'd get it done sooner.

Some of the recommendations I see on forums as right out of the 1950 Chevy manual. Since then, engine materials are better, machining tolerances are better, lubricants are much better, but some people still do the same.

Genesis engineers did a lot of testing. They give a warranty of 10/100 on the engine. Be sure to use synthetic oil though. I go by their plan.

Everybody drives their cars differently. Just about every car mfr - including Genesis - acknowledges that would affect maintenance intervals. They list 2 schedules in the OM. Does that mean there are only two types of drivers and two sets of driving conditions? Of course not. Those are merely general guidelines for your reference - not commandments carved in stone tablet thou shalt not deviate.

If how you drive your car fall in the middle (~70%) of the bell curve, following the OM general guidelines will suit you just fine. That said, the only thing more frequent oil changes would hurt is your wallet. Some folks care about that; others no as much.

Thank you very much.

Once a year on synthetic oil is perfectly fine. But I wouldn't go beyond 5K-mile OCIs on direct-injected-only turbo engines, but that's just me. The extra soot contaminates the oil more than normal. I think Genesis calls for 6K, if I'm not mistaken. If it's mostly highway, it'd be fine, but I do it every 5K, with Mobil1 0w30 and OEM filter. In fact, I just changed the oil yesterday at exactly 1 year, with less than 3K miles on the oil, just to satisfy the warranty time limit (don't use the car much).

Don’t drive much so I do mine every 6 months regardless of mileage! Year old in March and only 4700 miles.
