If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello from Toronto ,
New to the forum, I recently got Genesis GV70 advanced plus 2024 model. Looking for winter tires, seems like 255/40R21 is odd size which most of dealers don’t have .. I was thinking to downsize to 19in 235/55R19. Anyone knows if that have any impact on warranty or compliance? Or anyone have suggestions on winter tires? Thanks!

Why would it affect warranty? The 19" used to be stock on the 2.5T.

I have those wheels on my '23 2.5T Prestige with Michelin X-Ice tires and they have been great! Canadian winters with everything they can throw at them and never had an issue.

Tried to reach out to Genesis sale person but didn’t get response so thought community might be able to help. seems like all 2024 are coming 21” in stock so wasn’t sure if that impacts it in anyway.

I have 2024 model as well and recently downsized from 21 to 19 for winter tires. Got Michelin x ice. Continental Viking was my other shortlisted option.
Genesis even sells 18 as an option so warranty is not a concern at all.

Thank you, surprising but yes, Genesis is allowing 3inch downgrade for winter

Viking Contact 7s on 19" OEMs. 2nd set, and awesome tire. Prefer over X-Ice which I found a little loose on wet slushy conditions.

Bam. Same.👌

Nokian hakkapolita. Funny name. World’s best ice and snow tire.

Don't necessarily disagree. Had those prior to Viking Contacts. But haven't noticed a discernable difference in snow and ice conditions.

Hi From toronto here. I have same issue. My vehicle came with 255/40/21.
The winter tires in this size are super expensive. One dealership suggested 235/60/18.
Has anyone tried this? or 19 is better? Looking for first hand experience.

I don't think 18 or 19 are "better" than one another. Ultimately, I think you need to look at availability of tires in both sizes (the other is 235/55/19) and overall cost for tires and wheels, if that matters. Another factor is that the 18's will likely give you a much more cushy ride, and handle like a wet sponge in comparison to your 21", again, if that matters. Not sure how much fuel economy might be impacted with the different tire sizes. Finally, I am very picky about the proportion of wheel diameter to tire sidewall height. I am not a fan of tire sidewall height of the 19" or smaller...too much tire. 20", if I could find a suitable replacement for my 19" OEMs for winter, would be my ideal. I would never put an 18" wheel with such a large sidewall and a sporty vehicle like this. I just think it looks dorky. Again, personal preference regarding aesthetics.

Thank you for quick and informative response. If you know, from a warranty perspective does it matter if I install 18 or 19 on GV70? I am not worried about aesthetics much - need to get through winter safely is my objective. Cost of 21" winter is more than double of the 18"

No issue for warranty unless you buy aftermarket wheels that somehow fail and damage vehicle components. Unlikely, but I would recommend staying away from cheap aftermarket wheels anyway. Genesis, in fact, will sell you 18" winter wheels for the GV70, but you will pay ridiculous inflated prices. Just check with dealer that 18" will fit ie. clear the brake calipers. However, if dealer says they will fit, you're good to go. Another option is to check Kijiji or FB mktplace for used wheels that would fit. Occasionally, I have seen genesis wheels or even GV70 wheels for sale. If you're not familiar with wheel specs and fitment, however, I would suggest staying away from used aftermarket and go to a reputable wheel shop that can confirm fitment. Also, even used Genesis wheels are not all spec'd the same. So unless specifically GV70, you would still have to confirm fitment (primarily offset) as some Genesis vehicles have staggered wheels with different wheel width, which limits the range of tire size.

Thank you again. I will get a confirmation from the dealer about 18" size.
I am planning to go to Costco or Canada tire and not go to aftermarket.

Costco or Canada Tire IS aftermarket. Anything but Genesis OEM parts is aftermarket.

But, here's a gift to you. This seems like an awesome deal for new 19" wheels and tires, and the tires are wider than stock 19" (255 vs 235) but still exactly the same overall diameter as your 21", so no change to your speedometer. In fact, if Oshawa wasn't so far, I would buy these and sell my stock 19" winter set up. I would just confirm rim width and offset, both of which are stamped on the inside spokes or hub of the wheel. If 19" x8" wide, with an ET (offset) of +32 to +39, they will fit no problem.

Just dropped to $2000, probably get them for $1700.

This is great. I am in Oshawa! :)

By the way you now understand my ignorance that I didnt know what aftermarket means! :)

I did a minus 1 for Winter tires. Nokian 255/45/20 on a set of aftermarket aluminum wheels. I am in Alberta Canada, they have been on for over 1000 km and work well, we have snow on the ground now. Much quieter than the Viking tires Genesis use ( had a loaner with them a few days ago) Got them at Kal Tire for less than the 19's from Genesis.

My wife just took delivery of a GV70 2.5T Prestige with 21 inch tires/rims, here in Canada. In about a week I am taking delivery of a new GV80 Coupe (supercharged). In Canada this Coupe car comes with 2 sets of tire/wheels (summer/winter). My present vehicle today is a 2021 GV80 3.5T Prestige (fitted with 22 inch rims), I also have winter tires for this vehicle, they came from Genesis, they are 265/50-20 inch. The question is, has anyone tried installing the 265/50R20 tires/wheels on the GV70.
In Canada Genesis sets the retail price, no discounts etc, you have no choice it comes with both sets of wheels/tires. The 20 inch winter tires are 1 inch taller then the stock 21 inch stock GV70 tires, So speedometer will be off by 3-4% but that is OK for the winter.. Bolt pattern is the same, question is wheel spacing etc. If anyone has tried or is using this combo, please let me know.

I have 265 40 21 on my after market summers wheels, which is up sized from stock 255 series. No issue and bonus, you actually put less kms on the speedometer than travelled. Whether those tires fit depends on wheel offset and rim width. My only concern would be possible rubbing against suspension components, or when steering is cranked. Doubt there is an issue but hard to know without those specs and possibly test fitting on the car.
