  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all, new GV70. Brakes squeek backing up every morning, almost anytime. I mean REALLY loud--like I'm driving an old piece of crap car. Dealer says they checked it out and absolutely no solution--that it's a Genesis and Volvo thing--because the brakes are SO GOOD.

I literally can't stand it--I would trade this in in a second and buy something else had I known. Anyone else have this issue and anyone find any solution? I literally want to get rid of the car tomorrow!

Thanks!

I get a small squeak first think in the morning. My dealer found the first time that the caliper was sticking and replaced it. The second time they said it was not reproducible. But it is not that annoying to me.

Have you tried to do a series of hard brakes? Go to somewhere deserted, come up to speed, and step hard on the brakes. Do it several times. Sometimes the squeal is a function of the rotors getting coated and the hard stops tend to clear them off.

If you still can't stand it, you could try replacing the brake pads. But you need someone, not me, who knows enough to tell you what brake pads you should use to reduce squeal and still produce solid braking.

Thank you, Steve. I have tried the hard braking---I saw that someone else suggested that. It didn't work. I may try replacing the pads. I need to find another dealer perhaps! Thanks for the info! I have a long driveway pitched down, and I have to hit the brakes several times when I'm first backing out and my neighbors can't believe how loud and obnoxious this is! Ugh! I would have never bought the car, for sure!

I had the same issue. Happened pretty much every morning when I backed out of my garage. Dealer kept my car overnight and luckily it squealed for them in the morning. Told me there was a sharp edge on one of the brake pads. Hasn’t happened since.

I replaced the brake pads. I recall a similar squeak, but not necessarily to the extent where I wanted to sell the car back (!). My biggest gripe was the ongoing issue with these particular stock pads and the "soft" material, leading to deposits on the rotors over time and subsequent "shuddering". I've had the rotors already replaced once at 23,000 miles. The dealer refuses to acknowledge the brake pad issue, though it is well documented on the forums, particularly for the G70. I purchased a complete ceramic set from rockauto.com and had a friend help me install it. They've been wonderful; no issues thus far.

The link above is active, but here's a screenshot of my order:

Thank you. I will try contacting the dealer again.

Your dealer is, of course, spewing nonsense (I'm being very kind).
I would take it somewhere else. Some anti-squeal lubricant on the back of the pads should fix it, or worst case get a new set of high quality ceramic pads installed by a competent mechanic. (I know that last part can be challenging.)
Also, if it's a really bad, horrible, loud noise, it may be simply that a small rock or some sand has gotten lodged in a bad spot and is rubbing on the rotor (happened to me once on my M3 after driving on a gravel driveway), but that would do it all the time.
Good luck!

Had the same thing happen with my 2024 GV70; happened a few days a week. Started at about 1500 miles....
Genesis of Mentor told me it's an issue that Genesis is aware of & working to resolve. Now I have 7500 miles and no longer occurs

My squeak came as I backed out of my driveway. I hadn't notice it otherwise. Recently I have started backing into my garage and then driving out. I have not noticed any squeak as I backed into the garage. I suspect that it is caused by a combination of being on an EV where the friction brakes are used less and the car needing to warm up.
