  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2018 G80 3.8 with 72000 miles. This car was purchased 5 years ago with 20000 miles. Up to 60000 miles car was trouble free, but lately several unrelated repairs were required. I have replaced the thermostat, drivers door handle, trunk list assist cylinders, repainted the front and rear valance panels and front brake pads.

Currently the digital date and time at top of center screen does not show and the gps will not find my location. Any experience or solution for this problem. I have rebooted the head, downloaded updates and reinstalled the gps map update.

Check your shark fin. Is the plastic cover loose and close to falling off? It may have allowed water in to ruin the GPS antenna.

Surely you aren't saying that need front brake pads is a failure, as opposed to routine maintenance to be expected on any car?

No, brake pads are expected, but all in the last 10000 miles. The shark fin antenna is solid and fixed on the car. I am thinking maybe the gps antenna receiver module.

Welcome. This topic has been moved out of the community lounge and into the Genesis G80 technology forum.

Still trying to diagnose my onboard GPS failure. Can anyone tell me what the wireless antenna receiver module does and if it is related to the GPS signal reception. It is located behind the radio. Thank you

That's the cellular 3G antenna. Back when there was still 3G service in the US, it was used for the remote/start/lock/status features, as well as the POI search and such.

Ok, thanks.

I have installed the 2024 Genesis G80 software update and hoped it would correct my GPS and digital clock failure. The software update did not correct my problem. The GPS will not locate my position and I assume the digital clock relies on the GPS time.

My shark fin antenna is not loose and shows no damage.

Any suggestions as to the problem. Thanks

I replaced the undamaged shark fin antenna. Everything returned to normal with the GPS and clock working correctly.
