unusual smell

Here's the setup; AC on, inside air circulation. Is anyone else experiencing a musty smell when turning off the AC and switching to AQS? It lasts a few minutes before subsiding. Also, with AQS active and highway driving all is well, then when exiting highway and stopping (at a traffic light) the smell of exhaust fills the cabin forcing to open the windows.

Am I the only one here that leaves the climate control on auto and just pushes the temp up or down?

And only 7500 miles so I wouldn't think the cabin filter needs changing.

My mother's Crown Vic had an oil leak in the back of the right valve cover that dripped on something that also came through the air vents. It was a pain to find but also happened after exiting highway driving.

I tend to like the electronic gizmo's! I put mine in full auto and with the AQS active and leave it alone. The only smells I get are the skunks! I wish someone could make the AQS pick up that type of smell as well as all the rest. Only under WOT (Wide open throttle) for an extended amount of time do I get the old rotten egg smell from the exhaust.

If you truely have a musty smell from the A/C its because you use the Recirc. function way to much and the Evaporater is starting to get mold and mildew on it (very common). There are many products out there to fix this. I recommend Ozium. One quick spray in the intake vents by the windshield wipers and that smell will go away. Talk to your local auto parts store and they can steer you in the right direction. I bought one small can and it lasted me about 5 years.

Others have reported switching gas stations has solved this, although I have never experienced this. Anyone who cares, I just filled up my very 1st time with "top tier gas" at a Kwik Trip. Wikipedia it I'm used to 93 octane or 92, and the top tier is 91, but according to a few sources I have checked out, top tier has a higher standard and is "better". I believe if my old memory serves me correct, ctrcbob stated that a persons Trailblazer's owners manual recommends this fuel (not saying the Genesis' owners manuel does, because it doesn't).

I leave it on "Auto" all the time. In "Auto" the recirclate will come on and off as needed.
I "almost" never use "AQS". That is, the only time I do use AQS is if I start to smell Diesel fumes, or other things. Even then, I very seldom use AQS.

BTW, as noted in other threads and posts, "Auto" is smarter than you think. Surprised the heck out of me when the windshield defrosters came on by themselves, when in Auto mode.
