If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Year
2023
Genesis Model Type
Genesis GV80
Purchased 23 gv80 with 24k miles. The sixth day I owned the gv80 check engine light came on. Was easy to get appointment at Genesis dealer.
Needed all fuel injectors replaced. Thank goodness I still have warranty.
I asked service manager about Genesis reliability and what he said really scared me about Genesis. "Genesis is no Lexus"
I owned a rx350 for nine years, never in the shop for any repairs. Gv80 is a lot smoother riding and quieter and nicer then the rx but! I am stuck with the GV80 for now because I would probably lose money even tho I think I got a good deal on the gv80. Sorry, just needed to vent.

Here is my return venting. 😂

And, none of this is in any way, shape or form directed at your comments or towards anyone else on this board either living or a part of the zombie population.

So....

There are more than a few comments on here as well as on various youtube channels about lack of issues with GV80's and other Genesis vehicles. There are also posts about those vehicles having issues. You will see some of the same here. But imo, people who have issues tend to post more often than those who don't. And, these forums and youtube channels probably have only a very small percentage of owners on them. I mean the average age of Genesis owners is what 75? Forums? Youtube? Computers? what's that?

Just kidding btw before someone slams me. It's probably not that bad. Ok maybe not quite. 😂

All brands have issues, some more than others. And all brands have a certain percentage of vehicles that come from the factory with issues.

You may have gotten a vehicle with preexisting issues or maybe not. I certainly don't know. However, at this point, it really isn't a big issue (well it wouldn't be to me for you it may be different) except for a loss of time because you still have a substantial amount of warranty coverage left. However, if you continue to have issues, you should maybe look at trading it in before the warranty runs out or maybe even sooner if you truly get fed up with it always being in for service.

In regards to the service manager's comment(s) I am shocked that someone who drives a Lexus would say that (sarcasm btw).

And, if I owned that business and I heard my service manager say that, he/she would be unemployed quickly thereafter. So you are a service manager for Genesis but talk up another brand huh? On your off time - no problem but, while at work - major problem! That would be like going to a Lexus dealership to purchase a car and be told "well, these are OK but I'd go to the Genesis dealership if I was buying a car!" What? Matter of fact, if it was me, I would probably let the dealership know that their service manager was speaking poorly of the brand when compared to what he/she drives but, that is just me.

Finally, all these Lexus comments about reliability, I wish someone could fill me in as to why the Lexus dealerships have service departments? Sounds like all they need are a few individuals to do oil changes and brakes. They must be losing a ton of money in their service departments which BTW are where dealerships make the majority of their money as far as I know.

I am also very confused in that my daughter sold her Lexus back to a dealer and I looked in the service bay and it was full and the check in line was quite long. Maybe they were just detailing all the vehicles because I am pretty sure there were no issues with them.

Ok I'm done. Now time to go to the Casino!

Toyota/Lexus is a very conservative manufacturer with very reliable vehicles. We have owned several Lexus including their RX400 hybrid with virtually no issues. Manufacturers who innovate will have more issues than those that don't. However, that doesn't explain the need to replace fuel injectors on a year-old vehicle.

We have a 2024 electric GV70 assembled in Alabama that has had no issues in 9,500 miles of driving. Design, fit and finish are as good or better than any of our Lexus, which was one of the manufacturers who did not have an EV model when we bought last fall.

Your right, Genesis is no Lexus. But that's why I got the Genesis.
If I wanted a car that would hold up for the long haul and did not care about electronics, I would have gotten the Lexus. And probably if they at least had Android auto at the time, I might have even gotten one instead of the Genesis. But they were so far behind in all the little toys that I like, the I just could not get one.
Lexus is a solid car. Wise choice for most. But not for me right now.
And don't worry, buyers remorse if very common in new cars. You will get over it. And that engine is warranteed for 10 years 100,000 miles.
(EDIT) If this was used, its like like Joegr pointed out, its 4/60,000.

I fully agree with all your points.

I would also say that I would bet that wasn't the first vehicle of any brand to have a major issue after a year or so.

And, great point on innovation. I would add this includes engine improvements as well as electronics etc. I first started driving in the 70's and, as far as I remember, there were very few recalls. Now everytime I read the news I see another car brand has issued a recall. Now it could be that government rules are more stringent etc, but my first car was a 67 GTO and the motor bay was so clear of wiring, boxes etc that there was almost room for me to sleep in there. Nowadays you're lucky if you can get your arm down the side of a motor.

Only if he purchased it as CPO, and even so, the fuel injectors are not included in the 10/100 warranty.

And the service manager should be working elsewhere. Has to be a real inspiration to the techs working for him.

I think the OP purchased it new as he said it only had 24 miles on it.

I reread it and He said 24K. I thought he got it new and had 24K when it went bad, but I read it wrong. Looks like it was used.

Aha. Thanks. I missed that. Personally, I think it is difficult to blame a car company when a used car goes bad. One doesn't know how it was maintained, how it was driven, etc.

I think GerryFUSMC did a good job of discussing the Lexus vs. anyone else issue. Genesis is no Lexus but Lexus is no Genesis. Lexus sells cars based on luxury and reliability and they are more reliable, mostly because they are far from the cutting edge of technology. Genesis is much more cutting edge but doesn't have the same record of reliability.

Injectors were covered under 5yr 60k. Gv80 was one owner .
BTW, I'm 76 and know what YouTube, Facebook, computers, smart phones and Genesis fourm are.
Hopefully no more problems.
Thanks guys for your replies.

You can tell a lot about a car before you buy it by looking up the VIN, ESPECIALLY on a used car. It would tell you how many times the car has repaired, in accidents and such. Could show you a lot of red flags, if there were any.

Good luck, hopefully no more issues.
I love my '23 G70 Sport Prestige awd car. No issues, looks killer and drives awesome.

And why do you think someone got rid of that car that was only one year old with 24,000 miles on it?

I hope you didn't take the age reference seriously. I as well am almost there being 67.

We are like fine wine. The older we get the better we get! Now if I could just convince my wife.

Yeah. It is like ethnic jokes. Only members of the same group should tell the jokes. Same here. All us old folks (I top you both as I am 79) can prattle on about loss of memory, etc. Oh. wait a minute. What was I just writing about?

Gv80 is actually two years old. Purchased June 2022, but was a 2023, so 24k for for two years isn't bad. Bought in Texas traded in for Land Rover in Texas. Clear Carfax

I traded in a 1 year old 2017 Acura RDX with 10,000 on it for a 2018 Audi. No issues with the car, I just wanted Android Auto.
Who ever got that car luckes out as I am the one that took the bath.

Hard to say if yours was the exception or the rule. However looking at @Dcan car I would say it’s nothing like your car’s condition and the odds are against you. But I’m sure he got a good price.

Could be that the person puts that kind of mileage on his car annually and trades them in annually and the car was fine. Or, it could be that he drove it without doing regular maintenance and its prospects are somewhat dim; and, finally, it could be that it was just a troublesome car (every manufacturer seems to get some of those). The OP's first repair could fall into any of these categories. If it falls into the first category, the OP's problem could be unusual and and the car could remain pretty trouble free. If it falls into the latter category one might want to consider an extended warranty. But the first challenge is seeing if the OP can get historical data on the car.
