  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can somebody show me the location of dipstick for gear oil on 2010 Genesis Sedan 4.6L? I check the manual but couldn't find anything on this.

I like to check my gear oil level.

Do you mean the transmission or rear differential? Neither has a dipstick to my knowledge.

On the 2009 V8s it is the orange colored handle on the left side of the engine as you face the engine. It's quite close to where the hood support hydraulic strut attaches to the fender bodywork. Page 7-3 of the owner's manual shows it too. I can't imagine the 2010s being significantly different.

Thanks Mike.

However, the orange-coloured handle is the dipstick for engine oil. What I am seeking is the one for gear oil/transmission fluid.
I have attached a picture of what's in the manual page 7/3 as well.

I have 2011 4.6L. And if I am not mistaken transmissions in our Genesis cars are sealed transmissions, meaning there is no dipstick to measure level of transmission oil.

Ah, sorry about that - I missed the "gear" part of your question. As already posted, the 6 speed auto transmission (manufactured by ZF) used on the early V8 model year sedans is a sealed transmission. The service manual describes a procedure where the car is level, started and shifted through each gear - staying in each gear for >3 seconds - with the transmission warmed up to a specific temperature rate. Shut off the engine. Then a 8mm TORX plug on the side of the transmission is removed and, if the fluid level is correct, fluid should just flow from that hole. If not, add fluid through that hole.

The manuals I have don't show anything for the rear differential other than saying it uses about 0.75 to 0.8 liters of API GL-5 SAE 80W/90 gear oil. No description of how to check the fluid level, drain it, or fill it. From the sketches in the manual, it appears the differential is a standard design... so there is likely a drain plug along the bottom (or the rear cover pan is loosened) and somewhere about half way up the case is the fill bolt/plug.
