  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

WHICH would you Choose?

Nothing personal, but it's kind of a silly question on a Genesis board. But I'll play along by asking you a question back:

Are the pros and cons your opinions or are you citing a consensus of reviews you've read?

drove back to back

while Genesis does get worse MPG, it rides significantly better than the sonata...less noise too

I have my Genny in for service and they gave me a 2011 Sonata and I was Very disappointed. Granted, it was probably the base model with few if any options, but I found it extremely noisy. I really appreciate my Genny more since driving the Sonata. It is a nice looking car but I would have to try the upscale model before I would even consider it.

First of all, majority of the people will agree that Genesis looks much better than Sonata.

Second of all, Genesis does NOT have older technology than Sonata.

With that being said though, Sonata is a very nice car. I think Sonata's interior is class leading. I sat inside and I was amazed and I don't know about you but the seats were very comfortable. You just have to decide what kind of car you want though. Do you want a bigger, more luxurious car for more money? Or save thousands by going with a very competitive mid size sedan that will save you alot of $$$ in the long run?

NONE OF THE ABOVE!
Genny Coupe is what you need. Have your wife or friends follow you if your needing 4 doors.......

2 Doors are responsible for 90% of the door dings in the World! --- They're made too damn big, so that people can climb in the back seat!

Maybe so, However I disagree.
It's all the dam over sized SUV s. My former car the Challenger got more trips to the body shop from door dings from over sized SUV's parked next to me.

But it's really all about people with LACK of RESPECT no matter how big or long their doors are. They are to be blamed not coupe's in general.

Based on your comment of the Sonata having the 'worst seats you ever sat in', I would immediately rule that car out.

yea i immediately said "this is HARD"

I've had a coupe...bought back by Hyundai...Today matter a fact

3.8Lambda is pretty ancient compare to the Direct Injection

lets leave the price out of the decision making process. Consider them EQUAL

it's a tough decision....
I gotta think of MPG since i drive a lot... but comfort is also a big thing

I just wish Sonata had Genesis Seats! :(

While mileage is great, if you are not comfortable you will be regretting that decision the entire time you own the car. I will give up a few miles per gallon to be comfortable.

Apples and oranges. I would compare the Sonata to a loaded Camry, Accord or maybe VW Passat. Genesis is clearly a step above and IMHO well worth the extra cost.

Kind of an odd comparison, but I can see where you're coming from. With no new Azera to look at, the next best thing is a Genesis, but if you are looking at the Sonata you should also look at the Optima - basically the same car but it has a sync system that is really great. Plus you may like the seats more.

A base 3.8 is still around $6k more - are you really looking across such a wide spread?

At this point in time I am going to guess that there will not be a big difference in price. He will have to pay close to MSRP on a Turbo Sonata just coming out, whereas, he can expect to get a discount of as much as $5K off the MSRP price of a Genesis, brining it close to the $28,000 range.

But as someone else pointed out earlier, if the seats on the Sonata are not comfortable for you, I think that factor would override all other pros and cons.

Sonata is a mass-market FWD platform. Genesis is a luxury, RWD platform- much attention put into build quality, (welds, adhesive, sound dampening, etc.) All depends on the need of the consumer. Sonata is $20-28K Genesis is $33-$42.

I am shocked that the Sonata has gotten 6 votes thus far in this poll. On the Genesis forum, no less!

I would guess if the driver bought a Sonata, within 1 week, he'd be saying......'I should have popped for the Genesis'

You mentioned that MPG was a big decision factor since you drive a lot. You will get better than EPA MPG in the Genesis. I just drove 1,000 miles in 2 1/2 days on business in my 2009 Genesis 4.6, and I averaged over 28 MPG. I would assume that you would do a bit better than this with the 3.8.

well... I have decided for the Sonata. I'm young enough I can tolerate hard seats(i hope)

with my discount the Genesis was $800 more but they didn't have the white with saddle i wanted... oh well, next year i'll get the facelifted Genesis 5.0 with 8speed awd :)

thanks all!
