  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

the rubber boot on my 2015 Genesis 3.8 sedan trunk release/backup cam ruptured. found a replacement on ebay, but it did not work. returned and ordered a different vendor, that ALSO did not work. Cam displays blue screen, trunk doesn't release. Wondering what I am missing. all wiring looks neat and complete. harnesses are tight, parts are identical to original, but the OEM is over $300, while these parts are about $100...

did the camera work before you tried the swap out?

yes it did. and the pull was nothing special, wire bundles came apart easily, didn't jerk any wires or use much force. Unfortunately, broke a major rule when I threw out the original after I pulled it, and jumped to the conclusion that the first replacement was bad without REINSTALLING the original cam to verify that the wiring wasn't the culprit. Now that the original is gone, we cannot rule out wiring, nor can we rule out the chance that we got 2 bad cameras in a row. Stupid me.

Why did you replace the camera?

they are a unit, the camera and the trunk release are together. the rubber boot for the release was basically missing.

well HELL!! I did not know that. Is there a reason this unit doesn't work now?

Broken wires were the wires flex along the trunk hinge is not uncommon for your year.

I read that. seems odd that they would break after I removed the old cam and before installing the new one, but odder things have happened I guess. I will check.

I had the same issue in that my rubber boot was completely torn up and missing.

I bought this unit from eBay and it fit perfectly but the camera did not work. Unfortunately the original camera wouldn't fit into the aftermarket housing so it was no good to me. They refunded my money and told me to keep it.

I then bought this unit, which is the housing only. My factory camera fit perfect and everything looks and works perfectly now.

thank you for that. I think I will return the ebay unit, and bite the bullet on an OEM.

The eBay unit i bought was not OEM. I compared it to the OEM that I pulled and there were very minor differences. For the price I would but it again in a heartbeat.

I also compared it with OEM, and it was 99% identical, except that two in a row now have failed to work.

Ok, I just noticed that you threw out your original camera. I used my original so just buying the aftermarket rubber surround worked for me.

If you wanted to save some money you can buy the OEM camera by itself and the aftermarket surround.

I will, just wonder why neither the trunk release nor the camera work with this ebay unit. Same on the first one from ebay that I returned. seems like no power. I would need a schematic of the wiring to know what color wire does what, no?

If the original one worked when pulled then I would chalk it up as the eBay one(s) simply not working.

but 2 in a row from different sellers?

No colors, but...

When you press the switch, it shorts terminals 7 and 8 together. You can take a small wire and short those two pins on the connector together, and the trunk should pop. If it doesn't, then you have more problems than just the switch assembly.
