  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone, just trying my luck here after searching everywhere with no clear response.
I used to have a 2019 QX50 that could slow down without the need for engaging cruise control.
I needed to activate it once I started the car and it works regardless of me using the breaks or not. I get too close to a car, it would automatically slow down and even come to a complete stop if the car ahead of me stopped.

My 2023 2.5T sport prestige GV70 can do the same thing but it has to be in cruise control.
If I use the breaks myself, then it disengage cruise control and I have to remember to reengage it.
The thing is I absolutely detest cruise control and rarely use it, but for safety, I would really love the car to slow down, just in case.

Is there a way to activate a it WITHOUT cruise control?

There is a forward collision avoidance system that, if you select the option in the menu, will apply the brakes automatically. It doesn't work as a replacement for you hitting the brakes but it does provide the safety feature if that really is what you are looking for. See the video below.

I don't think that this is what he wants.
It does not keep you from violating a minimum safe following distance. While it will keep you from non-intentionally hitting another car hard, it will not prevent you from kissing/tapping another car.

I have never heard of a car maintaining distance unless the adaptive cruise is activated. The GV70 will apply the brakes if it senses a collision is imminent but they are applied harshly, not a gentle slow down. Get used to the adaptive cruise control. Once you have got used to it you will never go back.

But what about DD in the city?

On my 2025 it's refined to the point where it hardly ever requires you to resume making stop and go traffic easy to navigate. On my previous Genesis (G80 & GV80) it cancelled the Cruise after a few seconds after stopping and required reactivation but the newer system goes a long time when stopped before disengaging.

I use cruise in my daily driving in the city all the time. Makes dealing with heavy and stop
start traffic much easier
