  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Wanted to know if anyone warms up the vehicle to operating temp before driving.

My '14 Genesis is garage kept so I start it and drive slowly out of my neighborhood and gently up to road speed on cold days. Within 3 to 4 miles it is up to normal operating temp which is about a half mile before I reach the highway. I'm currently at 227,500 miles from new.

Wow, that is great. I have an 09 and I’m currently at 138,000 miles. I usually let it run for about 5min or so and then I proceed to drive and this is only on cold days. I hope I’m not damaging my engine and shorting the life of it by doing this.

In my 60 years I've heard both sides of the issue and for the last eighteen years of Hyundai ownership (first 8 with an '06 Sonata V6 with 255K miles when I traded it on my current Genesis sedan, I've always done it by the current method of warming it up gently by driving.

Never to operating temperature. I'll remote start so it runs a few minutes to shorten the time my butt is cold in the seat and just take it easy. I do it for me, not the car.

Now, heated seats and heated steering wheel, even less time to warm up.

I never idle to operating temp, even on the coldest mornings. Usually get in the car, start it, let it idle for a minute or so (check traffic on my phone, get comfy, etc.). Then I shift into reverse for about ten seconds, back to drive, and then I literally just coast for a few blocks, just to get the transmission fluid and diff fluid moving. Then just drive like a grandpa for the first ten minutes.
