  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello. I am the original owner of a 2013 Genesis sedan R Spec. My car has approx 115,000 miles. I do all my own PM work. My question is regarding the changing of the ATF. I’ve never changed mine, no tranny issues. I’ve been researching changing the ATF but are getting mixed reviews. There seems to be 2 camps. One camp is you need to change the ATF. The other camp is you never need to change the ATF, even the service dept at my Hyundai service dept says never need to change the ATF. I’d appreciate anybody’s thoughts, input and personal experiences. Thanks!

I changed my fluid at 89K miles, drain and service with 6 quarts of fluid per the manufacture's spec's at the dealership. I purchased a brand-new filter/drain pan from a direct parts dealer and will be having a drain and service within the next 2K miles at my local dealership where I purchased the car new. Currently sitting at 228,600 miles.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. Would you mind sharing what the dealership quoted you for the ATF change. That included parts and labor. I’ve been quoted a little over $700 from an independent auto shop. 228,600 miles is very impressive!

Mine was done 12/12/2017 at the dealership where I purchased the car brand new so prices have gone up. $90.00 in labor, $129.20 for 5 quarts of ATF SP-IV-RR and a $3.00 HazMat charge for a total of $222.20
$700.00 seems a bit exorbitant...IMO.

You might consider the differential fluid replacement as well. Mine was drained/serviced 04/18/2018 at 91,992 miles. $80.00 in labor and $23.90 for 2 tubes 75W90 GL5 for a total of $103.90

I had transmission flush done in June of 2023. Total for that was $430.

That’s a good idea about differential fluid change. Interesting that your car required GL5 90w. That’s what my nearly 50 year old truck uses too! Somethings never change. The reason I was quoted over $700 for the ATF change is that here in CA, the average shop labor rate is $175/hour or higher! Don’t even get me started about gas prices. LOL
