Got a 2011 3.8 with Tech and Nav a week ago. Some good - some bad.

Do I really have to press the DIS knob every time I start the vehicle? Does everyone have to do this? Do you just get used to it?

Also - anyway to roll up the windows from the fob or key? Even my wife's Nissan mini-van does it. . .

Yes you do have to press the knob everytime. We had to press enter everytime on our 2004 Acura also. You are talking about the safety notice screen? As to the windows I do not think my 2011 4.6 has a windows up from the key fob. I have read through the manual about three times and don't recall that option.

Not really. - Mine is set to the radio station that I listen to everyday. Most of the time I never Push the DIS knob. Exceptions are when I want to use the Navigation or Change the Audio. I go for an entire week without pushing the DIS knob.

In the 3.8 Premium w/nav (non tech) the display shows whatever was active when you last turned off the ignition. It only shows the nav nag screen if a) nav was active when you turned off the ignition, or b) you switch to nav from audio mode. Since I virtually never use nav I seldom see the nag screen.

This is an LCD Screen. LCDs do not 'Burn' like Plasmas.

I've got an LCD screen hooked to my computer that has had the same image for my wallpaper for 10 years. No Burn.

So, No Worry.

What is so difficult about pushing the DIS knob down? Seems a simple, less than a second thing to do.

That said, putting it in reverse while the nag is on (starting the rear camera) will make it go away..

there is no problem with pushing the DIS knob. The problem is that I would like the display to be blank/black when I do not use the Nav system or radio, etc...

On the System Settings Menu there is an option to turn off the Full Display.

Is this your first car with navigation? All the cars I have owned had a warning sign that I had to manually acknowledge. Hell, my Lexus won't even let me enter an address or find a place while I'm driving. I have to be in parked mode to use the navigation. I have yet to drive a car that didn't require a push of a button to make the warning sign go away. Definitely isn't Genesis exclusive.

Completely agree. If I wish to use the car's Nav system (which I absolutely love for its speed), the warning message acknowledgement is completely understood for legal reasons.
However in case I do not wish to use Nav or radio I would like this large screen to go blank automatically. For instance on Honda Accord the Nav display would go blank if an "OK" button is not pressed after a minute or so. An Acura TL and MDX models also have a similar feature where a nice screen saver (black screen with small nice looking "night stars") gets activated for the same reason.
As I often drive during the dark and need to manually turn off the display, I wish Hyundai would make this feature activated automatically (as similar to Honda/Acura Nav systems). I hoped there was a flag somewhere in the settings which I overlooked to get this feature activated.

With the Lexus and cadillac in most cases once you hit the accept for the first time you do not have to hit it again. I do not see the neccesity
of this feature but am aslo one who does not see the necessity of the warning lables on the sunvisor as they are in an awkward position to be read and really how many people read them and in some cars the label is so big I find that to me it is distracting.

Learned a new trick yesterday . . . PUSH and HOLD the radio knob and the screen will go black! Haven't yet tried it while the nag screen is up, but this is nice to know for night-time driving so my retinas don't get burn-in.

I'm the OP of this thread - yes - my first car with NAV (didnt' want it except for the options that came with it) so the nag screen is new to me. I think it's silly that Hyundai believes that a nag screen can absolve any liability or that it adds an ounce of safety for the owner. Do you really think Toyota could have put a nag screen (or sunvisor label for that matter) warning drivers about sudden acceleration/sticky pedals/loose floor mats . . and thereby be legally feckless for the problems they're having?

BTW, I pulled up my driver's mat yesterday and there's a tag under it that warns you about making sure it is securely fastened in place. Wow - never thought of that! Plus the tag says in large letters - DO NOT REMOVE THIS TAG. Guess what I did? (but then, I'm an idiot anyway)

One HUGE reason I don't like in-car nav - highly annoying that I have to hit that button before I can use the stereo, etc. Especially on such a pricey unit, vs a $200 handheld unit that works better, costs less etc... Plus, unlike some in-car units, my co-pilot can set directions while we drive, so I'm not forced to park just to make a change like with some units.

In my previous BMW the legal disclaimer appeared at start-up, but then it cleared and went to the main iDrive menu automatically after 5 seconds. Do miss that and the automatic roll-down windows using the key fob.

I have to agree with this. And I fully agree that while some attorneys who bring specious lawsuits should be ashamed of themselves, somewhere, somehow, a group of 12 citizens thought a plaintiff verdict was warranted. America's legal system is not perfect, but it's pretty darn good.
