If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The recent announcement of upcoming Supercharger access and free adapters for Genesis EVs is fantastic news, see Forum post

However, Kia access to the Supercharger network, which was to begin tomorrow (Jan 15) has been delayed. Different sources cite a new date of 1Q2025 or Spring 2025. If I had to guess, this is coming from the Tesla end not Kia, but I don't think anyone is going to poke the bear and come out and say officially for fear of further "retribution" delays.

Given this, seems unlikely Genesis will be able to hit their 1Q2025 target, unless somehow Genesis manages to "jump to line" ahead of it's Kia and Hyundai siblings as well as others.

Your assessment may be right, but there's another internet kerfuffle about the adapters that KIA was/is planning to send out. They are apparently rated for 1000V and 350A, which is entirely adequate for the E-GMP platform, but which would not be adequate on some other vehicles which can draw up to 500A. In some circumstance, those KIA adapters could end up being used on the wrong vehicle, yada yada. Just another rumor/thought about reason for the KIA delay.

One video explaining the "issue":

Interesting, thanks for that insight. That might indeed have something to do with it.

I wonder if Genesis is planning to use the same adapter? Seems possible, I haven't seen any mention of the brand or specs of the adapter they plan to send out..

This seems like it could be a big problem. Though the adapters would work just fine for e-gmp vehicles, when it comes to electricity safety standard they (rightfully so) don't mess around making these things idiot-proof. If there's nothing preventing somebody with a different CCS vehicle plugging into the adapter and pulling 500A+ that's not something that will likely be allowed to pass with a simple "warning sticker" or something. There's going to have to be a more robust prevention in place.

I was also disappointed to learn that Kia has a Sept 4th cutoff for who will get a free adapter, I was expecting (hoping) it to be based on Model Year (and assuming it would be at least 24 and 25). My guess is that Genesis and Hyundai will follow that also.

My guess is that Genesis and Hyundai will follow that also…

You don’t have to guess! Genesis already announced that all MY 2023-2025 will get the adapter.

“Beginning in early 2025 in the United States, Genesis is distributing NACS adapters to Owners of MY23-25 Genesis EVs..”

Ref: Update on upcoming changes for Genesis EVs!

And Hyundai had a similar announcement:

"Hyundai EV owners who have purchased or leased their vehicle on or before January 31, 2025 will be able to request a free NACS adapter..."

I wonder if this applies to buyers of used GV60s or only to those who bought new...

I’d have to imagine it would be new buyers only. They’re not going to hand out five chargers per vehicle just because it’s changed hands many times. Also, they would likely not know about subsequent owners (I recently received a recall notice for a car I bought new, and resold five years ago).

I suppose Genesis could require a VIN in conjunction with sending out the adapters.

I think so as well. I haven't checked the forums of the other automakers who received free ones. Maybe free to the current owner and car identified by VIN.

A Kia EV6 owner got his car to charge at a Supercharger yesterday by telling the Tesla app his car was an Ionic 5.

I verified just now that with a GV60 only magic dock locations show up in the Tesla app, but when I added an Ionic 5 to the app, all of the local NACS locations showed up. The next time I am near one of these NACS locations I may try this.

There is a thread in reddit covering this with multiple EV6 users reporting success.

Any brave Genesis owners giving this a try?

As others have indicated, I added an Ioniq 5 to my Tesla app in Canada and a bunch of supercharger locations appeared.

I'm afraid you might be right, but I _hope_ that you are wrong. For example, I bought mine used as a CPO - so b/c of the full factory warranty + still some of the 3-yr clock left, Genesis definitely knows about this owner.

We are talking about a $200 adapter in the context of a $40,000+ car purchase. I suspect anybody who actually wants one will buy it, and those who are indifferent will wait to see if they get one from Genesis. As an owner of a new 2024 model, I am sure Genesis will give me one eventually, but if I felt the need for one now, the $200 cost would not stop me from buying it today.
All this other speculation is useless muckraking about what may come to pass.

Done - holy sh*t - it WORKS!!!!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
As was indicated in the aforementioned video, simple process:
  • Download the Tesla app and add a payment method
  • Add a Hyundai Ioniq5 to the Tesla app
  • Locate and drive to a V3 Supercharger
  • Attach CCS-NACS adapter to Supercharger cable (previously purchased Lectron Vortex adapter in my case)
  • Activate session via the Tesla app
  • Voila - you be charging! (y)
Comments:
  • The battery was warm already so the session hit the 96/97kW max speed immediately
  • As has also been reported, the session errored out/stopped at 80% SOC
The importance/improvement of this access for road-tripping can't be overstated. In our case, it means we'll be taking the GV60 on an upcoming road trip rather than our Tesla. I simply wouldn't have chanced the trip in the GV60 otherwise.

WOWOWOW - this is huge!

Unlike with Tesla vehicles, the Supercharger isn't communicating more than what's needed to successfully charge to the vehicle, so it doesn't know what type of car it is. There's no reason a GV60 wouldn't work.
I tried a Magic Dock Supercharger here over a year ago, and it worked - It just wouldn't go past 50kW. Glad to see these are better.

I came across this video last night. It's with an i5 - but, again, it should all be the same. Interestingly, it charged quicker than the Tesla it was 'competing' with, despite peak rates being half that of the M3. It looks like the Ioniq Guy has gotten an upgrade.

First of all, congratulations on having exceptional taste in exterior colors: you have the best one. :-)

Secondly - hell yeah! Thanks for bravely testing this out. Were you at a V4 charging station or was that a V3? It looks like the cable reaches just fine?

That's a V3 station. The cable reaches fine because he is parked in the "wrong" spot. A Tesla would park in the next spot to the car's right. In this case since he connected to the stall on the end he is not blocking another charger. At V3 stations we should park on the end like this if possible, so that we aren't blocking two chargers. But Tesla says blocking two chargers is ok if necessary (many Tesla owners aren't thrilled about this, however).

In person, it's easy to recognize V3 vs. V4 stations. The V3 stations are "hollow", with the charging cable and plug hanging inside the hollow area. Most of the stall is white, but the hollow area is red. The V4 stations are not hollow, are taller, and are gray and black instead of white and red. The V3 stations have very short cables that will only reach to the rear of the car on the driver side (where the port is on a Tesla). The V4 stations have longer cables that will reach to the passenger side rear, so we would never need to block two stalls. Unfortunately, the Tesla app doesn't tell you whether a station is V3 or V4. The only way I know of to find out in advance would be to use PlugShare to look at photos of the site.

Thanks. SWMBO has good taste! 😉

V3. There are only a few V4 open in the US as of this writing.

The configuration of this particular Supercharger allowed me to charge without blocking the adjacent pylon, which was nice.
