  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I may need tires for my 2019 G80 3.8 with Staggerd 19" rims. Current tires are Continental ProContact RX. I don't drive aggressively and mostly commute with highway driving. Looking for viable options. Considering Khumo Majesty 9 solus since they are about $100 less/tire. Also Considering Pirelli P Zero AS+3 and Michelin Pilot Sport, which are slightly less expensive than stock. I live in the northeast, so wet traction and very occasional light snow are to be considered. I've been happy with khumos on my wife's santa fe, but this is a totally different type of vehicle.

Suggestions on these or other recommended options? Thanks.

Continental DWS06

Depends upon what your goals are. Handling? Range? comfort? Noise? In what order?

No tire can do it all.

I don't drive aggressively, so Handling may be a lower concern. However, safety shouldn't be compromised. I live in NJ, so we have 4 seasons, so I need something that is OK for highway driving in the rain as well as occasional light snow (If its bad, I stay home...). The reason I was initially leaning toward the Khumo's is when I checked tire rack ratings, the specs seem similar to the Continental ProContact RX that are currently on the car for significantly less money - about 30%+ less. I've also been happy with Khumo's on our other vehicles (Hyundai Santa Fe), but that it a totally different vehicle so may be irrelevant. On our 2011 Genesis 4.6, we've been running the Michelin Cross Climate 2's, but they are not available for the G80 19" staggered setup. The other tires that came up on TireRack are the Continental DWS06, Michelin Pilot Sport All season 4 and the Pirelli P zero AS +3.

I also don't expect huge longevity on any of these tires since tires can't be rotated front to back.

The tire warranty is also important. The fronts get the standard warranty, the rear get half the warranty. The DWS06 have a 50k tread wear warranty and I generally get credit for 30% or more of the tread life when I replace them at Discount Tire. You have to ask to get the warranty,

Of the tires you mention, the Kumho are very good but IMO the Contis DWS 06 get better reviews for your usage than the others. I would eliminate the Pilot Sport as they are optimized for handling and I don't trust Pirelli (again, a tire that handles well but I have seen too many reports of the summer version with bubbles on the Lucid forum.

If you are happy with the Kumhos, you would likely be happy with them on your Genesis as well. Remember that the grass always looks greener on the other side of the street. So given your desires and concerns, stick with the Kumhos.

Kumho are bad for any winter driving. Any snow and you can have problems. If you can, go with DWS 06+.

Continental DWS06 On my second set. I'm in New Jersey too. I also put them on my wife's Sante Fe, but that was probably overkill.

no one else seems to like them but the pilot sports for me...I think they are version 5 now.

The OP indicated that he doesn't drive aggressively and does mostly highway commuting in the northeast. I think the Pilot Sports are great tires (currently I am running 4S summer tires) but for his use they might be overkill on the performance side and underkill on the comfort and severe weather side.

If the OP wanted the best performance tires for the southwest US but in all season form, the Pilot Sports would be first on my list.

Thanks for the comments, very informative. The comments regarding khumo tires in the snow is noted. What's interesting is that when I looked at tire rack, the khumos rate very similar to the stock Continental tires. The other tires mentioned above appear to have Superior ratings. If the pricing were closer this would be an easier decision. I'm sure whichever choice is made, it's still got to be better than the rear wheel drive. Genesis 4.6 we have in wet or snow.

I guess if I were to sum it up, I'm looking for value without compromising safety for The majority of My driving, which is highway commuting. If it's snowing, I Will generally stay home. I kind of wish the car had 18s all around instead of staggered. 19s.

I liked the Pilot Sport, but they wore out incredibly quickly for me (12k on the rear). I tried 2 sets and switched to the Continental DWS06. They did much better.

i agree with you.

I am new to Genesis and just aquired a 2019 G80 3.8. Mine came with a new set of the Michelin Pilot Sports and they seem very firm to me - really exaggerate road imperfections.
I have the Pirelli P zero AS +3 on our other car and have run them on it for quite a while. In my opinion they really do a great job! Handle well, quiet, and forgiving on the rougher road stuff.
Have only had good experiences with Pirelli. If you want an even cushier ride you could go with the Pirelli P7 AS +3 grand touring. Ran these on my Lexus ES and man are they a smooth ride!

I just ordered a set of Pirelli P Zero AS+3 for my 2016 Genesis 3.8. I bought them based on Tire Rack reviews. My current tires are Michelin Pilot Sports.

Sounds good - please let us know how you like them! I'm considering switching over to these even though my Michelins are new.......just not a fan of these on the Genesis.

Any update on how you like these tires so far?

It is my son's car and so far he is happy with them. I am waiting for him to take them on a road he sometimes drives on that has a bunch of curves. So far so good, but we have only put a couple huundered miles on them.

I have a 2021 Genesis G80 Prestige, and I highly recommend the General G-Max AS-07 All Season 275/40ZR19 105W XL Passenger Tire. You can find them on Amazon. They're not cheap, but they're worth it!

Since you're in the NE, and assuming you're planning on not switching to winter tires, then the Michelin Pilot Sport AS 4. Otherwise get the the Pirelli P Zero AS Plus 3. Check reviews in TireRack
