Park Away from other Motorists…

Dear 2025 GV80 owners it’s with a heavy heart I’m writing this message.. Someone hit my brand new 2025 ( GV80 2.5 Prestige w/ running boards, etc..) on Valentines evening and tore up my entire front bumper, rim, left front side.. Needless to say insurance is attempting to repair the vehicle and it’s been over a month and I just received an estimate from the collision shop totaling $25k (roughly) and I say roughly as tne engine harness is not manufactured in the US and will can take another 4-8 wks.. I feel so helpless because this is my 2nd GV80 (upgrade) and the vehicle only has 4800 miles and insurance is telling me I will have to wait the 4-8 wks and keep the rental or if I choose drive an unsafe vehicle.. Needless to say I’m mentally and physically sick!! Not going to drag this on but please if you love your vehicle park far away from other motorists!!

Whenever I guy a new car I do exactly that...park far away from everyone. I still do it occasionally but after a few months the tendency tends to abate.

But I don't see how you got that much damage from another car parking or leaving a space. It must have been traveling at speed and that could happen anywhere in the parking lot.

From your email I am inferring that you were parked at a lot of a store or restaurant. I am also inferring from your use of "someone" that this was a hit and run most likely an inebriated driver. For the same reason I mentioned above, the car that hit you must have substantial damage as well. In many such lots the store/restaurant has video surveillance. Even if it doesn't, if you know about when you were hit there might be government cameras on the street or private cameras that given a timeframe might give you, and law enforcement, a chance to identify the culprit given the damage to his car (I think the former rackets prosecutor in me is coming out). I don't know where you are located but with that much damage the hit and run must be a felony. It won't get you your car back sooner but perhaps some satisfaction while you wait.

I have driven a GV80 for about a month as a loaner and it is a terrific SUV for city use (I don't offroad and certainly not in a loaner so I have no idea how it is for that purpose). It is too large for my wants but that is not the fault of the vehicle (and I am weird in liking a smaller vehicle). I remember when I first got my GV60P and I would have been crushed if what happened to you happened to me.

Try to focus on the positive.

You are correct law enforcement is involved and there was a witness. However, they still haven’t caught the guy and im stuck with the mental anguish and bills.. paying for my GV and driving a rental because insurance refuses to total loss so they can nickel and dime. I uploaded a pic and I would upload more but the server says my pics are too large. The plaza owner had the outdoor cameras removed when he purchased according to police but the owner of the restaurant has the guys pic from inside of the restaurant and he put it in social media.. But still no luck finding him.

Does not look anywhere near a total. That aside, they should be fixing it under your collision insurance and if the guy is found, go after him. Hope they can easily get the needed parts.

Agree BUT he may be sans insurance which may be why he ran. But that is your insurance company's problem,. not yours. If they find him, I hope he will see a cell for a while to teach him a lesson.
