  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm thankful to be accepted into the Genesis forum. I'm new to Genesis ownership; although I've driven my mother's champagne colored 3.8 Genesis sedan on occasion I purchased a G90 for myself on 3/24/25. My Dad and a best friend of our family (both who have passed away) were avid Lexus lovers. Both put over 450,000 miles on their LS 400's; the vehicles lived longer than they did; while my Dad died first and then our friend died in their early 70's and purchased the vehicles when they both turned 50 years old.

So naturally I aspired to own a Lexus and in 2017 I purchased a 2014 GS 350. If that car wore a dress I would've married it. It served me well for eight years with no repairs; all I did was all of the scheduled maintenance. At the 182,000 mile mark the 8 speed transmission died which shocked me since the 5 speed transmission in the LS 400's my Dad and his friend owned never died and shifted smoothly even at 450,000 miles. Meanwhile my fathers LS 400 was running perfectly even at 450,000 miles which is when it was involved in an accident that totaled it-even then it sacrificed itself while allowing my mother and I to walk away from the accident unharmed. Except for a timing chain rattle at start up that appeared around the time the warranty expired at 100,000 miles and goes away after 2 seconds I've been impressed by the reliability of my mother's 3.8 Genesiss sedan that is now at 161,000 miles and still runs like it did when she bought it brand new (except for the timing chain tensioner rattle). I'm thankful for 8 years of trouble free service yet disillusioned that my GS 350 did not reach the almost 500,000 miles that my fathers' and family friends' LS 400 reached.

Then I saw the G90 and have been enamored with the understated yet opulent design and smooth yet powerful 5.0 liter engine. As soon as I drove the two tone G90 I was no longer a grieving widower. Not caring about badge recognition and only my personal satisfaction was enough along with the test drive that made me feel great about purchasing my first G90. That's the back story of what led me to search for this Genesis forum.

Thank you for having me! I'm happy to be here and please let me know about any Genesis car clubs in Georgia or any surrounding states.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. I'm glad you found us. Congratulations on your new Genesis G90! It really is one heck of an automobile - and in my unbiased opinion - a better option than the current Lexus LS this past generation... That original LS 400 was one of the best cars ever made. I wonder if your father and his friend drove their LS's less aggressively than you had driven the GS 350. The GS is more of a fun car to drive - so I wonder if maybe that had an impact on the life of the transmission.
