If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I like my Genesis but Im not thrilled with it. I have a dealer that will trade me, even up, a loaded 2011 Sonata Limited turbo. I do not think they have any nice used Genesis and want one. My car is like brand new with 14K miles. I just dont know what to do.

Someone already took the hit on your current car, driving it off the lot.
Now the depreciation is much slower and you are driving a nicer car.
If you are not thrilled with the Genesis talk to someone who is driving a Sonata.
What will both cars be worth two years from now?
Lastly if the dealer wasn't getting the better deal he would not be trading.

Im considering trading my 09 Genesis for a 2011 Sonata or a 2012 Genesis or just completely getting out of Hyundai all the way.
Let me know what you decide.
Thanks,
Seattle Genesis

Think about it carefully. I just traded my 2011 Genesis 4.6 for a 2011 Sonota, loaded. The two cars are simply not comparable. The Sonota is a nice car (it's my third one), relatively inexpensive to purchase and operate. It is an ordinary sedan, however. It's a ride back and forth to work, nothing else. I don't look for excuses to drive it, like I did with my Genesis. Now, if we are going somewhere more than a few miles away, I prefer to take the GFs Lexus - something that never happened with the Genesis.

I just cannot imagine getting rid of the Genesis for a Sonata. 2 completely different cars in different price ranges.

With that said. if my Genesis suffered from a lot of reliability issues, I'd probably opt for a Honda Accord, if I just wanted some simple reliable wheels.

I decided to hold off on trading. The guy from the dealer keeps calling trying to do the deal even though I told him I need to think about it.

I had a Sonata as a loaner... I didn't like it...but I had to remind myself that its sticker price was half that of my Genesis. Not bad for around 20K. I think if I was looking for a cheap car to go back and forth in... I would consider a Sonata. The Genesis has more of an "enthusiast" attitude. Not sure how to explain it.

The Sonata felt very very light. When I shut the doors...the metal in the doors rippled. I like the more solid feeling from the Genesis.

The Genesis has a lot more to offer in my opinion.

I'm having the same feelings about my Genesis. I got my Genesis the first month it was released. I was one of (if not) the first owners on the west coast. I paid $46k out the door.

I just went to the dealership to get my car appraised and they don't even wanna give me $23k for it. I'm so pissed off. I think I'm just going to cut her loose and get something else.

I will NEVER buy another car brand new again ESPECIALLY a Hyundai. The depreciation is just absurd.

Not to mention it's a Tech/Prem V6 sedan with 37k miles. Paid in fill July of 2008

Sounds like you paid about $10 Grand over Sticker Price. - That's most of the problem here. $23K for a 09 V6 with 37K miles is more than I would pay!

My wife has a 2011 Sonata SE. Its a nice car and gets excellent fuel mileage. I paid $31K for my Genesis last year. I dont know what they were gonna give me for a trade but the Sonata was MSRP at $28K and the deal was even up. So I dont know where they were taking the money from.

So strongly considering trading my Genesis in for a 2006 Infiniti m35 journey, sport, and tech pack with 60k miles and pocketing $5k. Doesn't sound like that bad of a deal. Or a 2007 m35 sports pack with 50k miles for $16k and pocketing $8k.

Depreciation is a fact of life for just about any mainstream car, from any car company. As a matter of fact, I believe the Genny has greater resale value than some of it's competitors out there!
I just bought a used 2009 3.8 - my first used car. In the past I'd always bought new and kept my cars 10 years or so.
Market conditions can vary - if you were expecting more $, try selling privately. The car I bought had depreciated about 10k in 15 months. The biggest hit will always be the first 3 years or so. I would not trade a car that new unless I had to. After my experience, I would also not buy new again - at least not in the Genny's price range here in Canada. To each his own I suppose.

Not to pour salt in an open wound, but.........

Your car hasn't realized an unusually high depreciation from it's original worth so much as you paid grossly over it's original worth.

The Genesis actually enjoys a little better than average value retention.

I'm going with a 2007 Infiniti M35 with 60k miles. Fully loaded with the lane departure warning, driver and passenger cooled seats, and the intelligence cruise control. Of course those features weren't in the 2009 Genesis'. Dealer is also throwing in the 90k service for free so the next service will not be until 120k miles. He's also giving me $5k back which I plan on using for some customizing.

For anyone thinking about trading down to a Sonata, I'd suggest looking at the Optima SX - which has been getting rave reviews (significantly better handling, steering feel than the Sonata).

In an alternate universe, we're tearing through the blissfully serpentine asphalt twisting through Topanga Canyon outside of Los Angeles; a pull of the steering wheel paddle shifter drops the transmission into second before we enter a sweeping corner. Hard on the brakes, and then back into throttle to power out; we're now three-up in the new turbocharged 2011 Kia Optima SX, and quickly bearing down upon a BMW 5 Series. Sound like a dream? Hardly: the Optima SX hungrily devours challenging corners, and its turbocharged engine backs up its good looks with plenty of bite.

You'd expect a chassis in this segment to protest the least bit of spirited driving, but that isn't the case. The Optima is quite composed, even when its suspension is unloaded in a tight corner. Ride quality is typical of the new Kia -- tuned for a more sporting feel and borderline stiff -- but aside from harsh impacts on nasty potholes, the car is quite comfortable. On-center feel is commendable and the electric power steering is tuned for just the right amount of feedback. Understeer only pops up at the limit of adhesion, but it appears in a predictable manner that inspires confidence.

You paid $31k for your Genesis eh? Sounds like a base model.

If I had a choice between a base model Genesis and a fully loaded Sonata turbo, I'd take the Sonata turbo.

Could you be a bit more specific on the REASONS you're unhappy with your Genesis?

ummm No
My Genesis in the one in my signature. Premium plus package. Not a base model. My Genesis sticker was $36,130. I wheeled and dealed, and also used a sales manager that I have been buying Hyundai's from since 2000. I do not pay sticker price for anything.

Not me! -- I'd take a base bottom of the line Genesis, before I'd even think about getting a Sonata. Not that I'm against a Sonata, it's just that a Genesis is such a Superior Car!

I totally agree with this statement!
No way...no comparison!
