  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I got my 2011 Genesis in August of 2010. I noticed when I first got it, when it rained, that the wipers did not wipe smooth across the windshield, but hopped and dragged. I didn't think too much about it then, but now that the streets are sloppy with salt and snow residue the wipers skipping is annoying. Has anyone else noticed this and came up with a fix?

I have never had new wipers act this way before.

I hate when that happens...
I do not, ever, experience that problem since I started using Rain-X years ago.
I will never go without it...EVER!

Some people hate it...I love it!

My wipers are silky smooth.
JMO.

So, do apply rain-x to the windshield or the wipers? And how often do you have to re-apply?

I apply it to the windshield every 2 to 3 months.
I also apply it to the wipers. I just wipe it along the blades.

I've had the car for 19 months and still have the original blades. (But I'll admit they are getting tired. I'm having a hard time finding some wipers here in Montreal.

I also do my wife's car.

IF you're going to apply it to your car...make sure you put 2 coats for your first application.

Please note that;

Once you start to use Rain-X on the windshield, you must continue to use Rain-X. I used to use it years ago, but no more. I found that once applied, if you no longer want to use it, the "Wiper Hopping" will be worse than what you had before you started.

What I do to prevent wiper hop is I clean the wipers themselves with soap and water. (something like Simple Green or "109" or any good spray soap). I also scrub the windshield with the same soap.

That being said, I do "sometimes" use Rain-X but only to "lubricate" the wiper blades, and to clean the scum that sometimes forms on the windshield at the end of a wiper stroke. (spray very little on the scum, or directly on a cloth, then rub the scum and it comes right off).

JMHO

I started searching the net for the Rain-X 'solution', but ended up finding more negatives on this than positives. Some claim a Milky appearance etc.

I applied Aquapel to my windshield, which turned out to be a big mistake. It repels water like Rain-X but lasts longer - that's the good part. The bad part is that it makes it impossible to get the windshield really clean. No matter how you clean, what products you use (Invisible Glass, etc.), and what you wipe with, you still wind up with hazy streaks. After trying to remove it without much success, I finally got some glass polish from Griot's Garage and applied it with my DA polisher. At last I have a clean windshield - even driving into the sun I don't see the hazy streaks.

Anyway, you might try a set of Valeo blades - they are great. They don't skip or chatter, they clean well, they are quiet, and they are inexpensive.

Do you know a source on-line? Part number?

900-24-7B (DRIVERS SIDE) and 900-20-7B (PASSENGER SIDE) - available at Amazon, as well as lots of other sites. ~$17 each

Try just putting the Rain-X on the outsides of the windshield and you will find that the wipers do not chatter. It works well. Also go to slow on the wipers instead of delay which will speed the wipers up when the windshield determines that a faster wipe is needed.

I was at the dealer today for an oil change and I mentioned to them that my wipers have dragged ever since I got the car. They replaced the blades and my problem is solved. :)

Cut-Throat,

Do you know what type of blades they used for the new ones? Was this at Walser?

I have the same problem and would like to try switching out the blades before doing anything else.

Don't know what type of blades they were/ Yes, it was at Walser in Brooklyn Park. Switch those blades out!

Highly recommend the Valeo Blades (only available online, Amazon) Solved all my issues ...also use the Rain X windshield washer fluid for good measure!

+1 - these things are great!

Crappy operation of the wipers has been one of my pet peeves on our Genesis so I finally changed out the blades. I installed a pair of Goodyears from Costco yesterday. The whole wiping action - wipers, motor sound, slapping noise and smoothness is now flawless. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! :)

I had the same problem with the drivers side. I changed it with a blade from Michelin and it work a lot better. No more slap noise and a lot less residue. It seems like it is a design flaw from eh windshield arm.
