  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Semi-annual complaint: Why can't a $60k vehicle auto-set DST?

Why do I have to make like 1997 and manually set a toggle for DST on an advanced software-driven vehicle?! I know that different parts of the country and world have different rules for DST, but it's easy to program those or simply offer a toggle on an automatic function that would cover 98% of a given country.

I suspect that it is just not worth the time reprogramming and debugging and trying to please everyone when it takes precisely 3 seconds (at least one on GV80) to uncheck the DST box

But the other 2% would be pissed off if they were not covered.
Do you set it to the state registered or the state driven in? If you live on a border and cross frequently, do you want the time where you are or the time at home in time for dinner?

Checked my account balance for Daylight Saving and it is pretty good. Next week I'm going to use some of it when travelling.

Pretty simple - Who cares about the 2% - The time that you are in.

I agree. Why have a setting for automatically set time.

I wonder if it changes the time zone when crossing a time zone?

The DST option should be for those areas that do not observe DST. This is just like the – Sport mode bolster seat setting which has never been fixed. Remove these options if you cannot fix a three year old vehicle.

Mine does.
Yes, and that is simple as it get the time from GPS. They never change and can determine your location. One time setup for the life of the car. DST is more complex. Some states do, some states don't, the day it starts has changed so it is not feasible to program in a date to change.

It's really not as complicated as you seem to think. There are rules for the date, such as first Sunday in November. Those rules can and do change, but the last time that happened was 18 years ago. We have updates available twice a year, so a change would easily be taken care of before it came into effect. In any event, a three way selection (DST, AUTO, ST) would handle everything better than the current two way choice (DST or ST).

Yes! You can imagine my surprise after 15 years, at least, of automatic time changes in every car I have owned during that time, getting into my brand new Genesis to discover it is stuck in the 80s.

Easy enough to fix, so it is not really a big deal. Just something that surprised me.

My 22 Pathfinder switches automatically.

My 25 G70 requires that the DST setting be manually toggled off.

Gee, I would be happy if I only had to do it twice a year. My clock setting won't stick. So almost every time I start the car I have to go to the clock setting screen and unchecked then re-check the box for setting the time automatically. Then the click sets to the current time.
The light/dark screen theme is at least partially tied to time of day, so it needs to be correct.
Genesis hasn't been able to determine the issue. (sigh)
