  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I recently bought a used 2022 GV80 3.5T and need to get the oil changed. Current mileage is 22,500. I see a sticker under the hood that recommends a certain Shell/Quaker State oil. Is it necessary to use this oil for longevity or warranty purposes? Also, I think I would rather run 5W/30 weight oil than 0W/30 and have read that that will be fine. Do you agree?

At this point, the oil seems to be overfilled on the dipstick and doesn't look so good.

I just called the local Hyundai/Genesis dealer and they quoted me $132 for an oil change and stated that it will include the oil that is depicted on that sticker under the hood. Is that a reasonable price? I think I saw a video indicating that you have to remove some things to get to the oil filter. It is because of this that I am a bit leery to use a regular oil change place such as Valvoline because they may, in their rush, screw something up.

WHY do you not want to use the recommended weight of oil?
Brand, IMHO, is insignificant as long as it meets specs. (My genesis dealer used Audi brand once!)
$132 is about right. Not great, but not gauging either!
YouTube has detailed directions to DIY. Not too bad!

Been a few years but I was taking a trip and wanted a change before leaving. The local lube place was $116, dealer was less than 100 at the time but booked up. Four years later, $132 does not sound too bad.

Meeting specs is more important than brand. I'm sure they have some deal with Shell for the sticker placement. As for the 0W vs 5W, you will get 12 opinions from 10 people on that. I never questioned the dealer.

Use the weight and spec of oil recommended in the manual.
The brand is not the issue, but the oil should be 0w30 full synthetic and meet at least the API SN PLUS /SP or ILSAC GF-6 standard. This is not the place to cheap out.

Looks like you may be in Canada. I'd agree in your region. Lower viscosity is good in low temperature. Does it matter when the lowest temperature is 40F and much of the year low is 75F?

Apparently not. See the attachment.

The price is reasonable. That's what I paid for an oil change on my G70 at my local Firestone.

Thanks, all. Good to know the price is in line. After watching a few YT videos, I think I could do the oil change, but I would need to purchase some of those ramps you drive the car onto, which cost at least $70. So, the first time to do it would cost me more than $132. Then, I'd have to store the ramps somewhere. I haven't actually yet been in this dealer's service area, maybe I'll give them a chance to do the job and see how they do.
