  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was driving to visit with my son and grandkids when I got the dreaded message of an electrical failure and direction to pull over and park the car. About fifteen miles from home and from the dealership. Annoying since the car had just been in for the ICCU recall. It was a Sunday and it took hours for Genesis to find me a tow truck and driver. Of course the dealership was closed (at least the standalone service part) so I had to UBER home.

Now I am driving an almost new GV70 with the 2.5 liter engine. What a dog! No longer having a GV60P with its more than 500 foot pounds of torque the acceleration from a stop is awful. I am going to have to recognize that my acceleration is so comparatively slow. The loaner also has no HUD which I have become accustomed to and rely upon. My service advisor told me that they only have one electric loaner but he is putting a tag on it so that when it comes back they can switch me out to it.

This makes me realize how much I do love my GV60P and want it back. But it may be a while. My service advisor told me that they are not even taking cars into the shop today for repair. There is a 48 hour delay on that because of a backup. He said that was because there are only three Genesis dealerships in the Valley. IMO that is a BS excuse. There are only 4 BMW dealerships in the area and they are able to service their customers (I assume based on my prior experience as a BMW owner).

It will be interesting to see how long they keep it and that may determine whether in the future I stay with Genesis or move on. If they are going to be keeping my little pocket rocket for an extended period, I would want a loaner that is at least equal to what I gave them to repair!

Damn, sorry to hear... this hits home pretty hard, and I guess confirms that anyone at any time could get it. That's not encouraging, esp. as the holidays approach and I'm sure many will spend more time on the road going to/from distant locations. Please keep us posted (and yeah I didn't love my G70 loaner either)!

OT but I spent some time trying to get a date-code from my 12v battery, in anticipation of when I would want to preemptively switch it out (no joy so far - I have one of the AGM Rockets - Rocket Battery Manufacturing Date Code)

Sorry about this. How many months and miles on the vehicle? Did you happen to have a 12V battery pack available? Just curious if you considered using one to "limp home".

about 35K miles. I didn't have a 12 volt battery pack available and I couldn't tell if the problem was with the 12 volt or the battery pack.

Sorry to hear this bit you. GL with the repair, I hope it goes better that initial indications.

I travel with my VEEPEAK Bluetooth ODB2 sensor in the glove box and a battery jumper pack in the trunk. My thought is that if I get this failure, I will be able to check the battery voltages with the sensor to verify the fault since it has those screens and then top of the 12v battery to get home. Is there any fault in my logic?

How is the OBD2 port going to work if all of the electronics are dead? I would think you would just want a dumb multimeter.

But topping off with a jumper battery might work. I carry one in my frunk.

Makes you wonder if they actually did the recall work or just collected the money.

Wow! Not good news. Sorry to hear that. Mine is also 3 years old but so far no ICCU issues.... Please let us know if it was the ICCU or if it was a 12v battery issue. Like some others I carry a 12v battery pack. From the time I got the car 3 years ago the 12v battery issue was a big story on the Ioniq 5's and hence the GV60. I hardly drive the car and after 3 years I have only about 5500 miles on it so it sits in the garage for most of the time. Each week I would test the 12v battery voltage and use a charger to charge back up the 12v battery. The little yellow light on our Crash Pad comes on but I found that it really does not do a very good job of recharging the 12v battery. I'm also wondering after 3 years if I should just change out the 12v battery to be on the safe side.

Exactly this - mine is a CPO, had for a year so I've no idea of the age of the battery, and I can't seem to find a date-code on it. Really prefer to avoid getting caught with it suddenly dying - even though my _understanding_ is that this is not part of the ICCU problem. Also, wasn't the last ICCU recall a 1) chk for the presence of any specific fault recorded on it, and 2) if none, do a small firmware update, nothing else? So one assumes that @steveinarizona car reported clean (I guess)

Did you, or are you going to, file a report at NHTSA?

I don't know yet as I don't yet know the diagnosis.

If I don't get the electric loaner soon, I want the dealership to swap out my piece of crap GV70 2.5 liter for something closer to my GV60P (the loaner MSRP is only 70% of mine).

Sorry to hear this, Steve! I have yet to be hit by this but it almost seems inevitable now. Does anyone have insight as to whether there are particular usage or charging patterns that may increase (or decrease) the likelihood of this occurring? Certain climate/temperature conditions? It seems like it can happen on both low and higher milage vehicles, and on any MY?

So I spoke to the CA who is filling in for my CA who is off for the rest of the week. He basically blew me off. He said that my appointment for the windshield upper molding safety recall just got me into the queue which is bullshit because I got the same treatment as if I had just driven in. So they still haven't even looked at it. I then asked about getting a vehicle closer in value and features to my car (the loaner MSRP is only about 70% of mine). He told me that I was lucky to get a loaner as they are all out. Ne never said he was sorry for anything nor that they were doing anything to speed up the queue such as hiring more workers.

There are two aspects for buying a car -- buying the car and dealing with the dealership afterwards. I love my car but I am thinking that I will be back to BMW or Lucid or someone else because the dealership is apparently indifferent to its customers. The local BMW dealership would never have acted this way. It is a shame but Genesis has not gotten the secret sauce right about selling and servicing a luxury automobile.

I agree. Once you buy a car it’s all about the service. My wife has a Lexus and the last time we went in for service they kept asking her if she needed a loaner car. After she said no ( I picked her up) they asked her 2 more times to make sure. The times I’ve take in my GV60 to Hyundia/Genesis the most I’ve received as a loaner is a GV70. We liked it but it was also the 2.5 and lacked power. The 3.5 GV70 would have been nice to try. When my wife buys her next car, serious consideration will be given to the dealership location to our home (Genesis dealership is not that close to home) and the level of service they provide to their customers. Please keep us updated.

Why would this be reported to NHTSA?

Also, at least with a G90, they give me a G90 loaner. That is unless there is a recall on it.

Why would this be reported to NHTSA?

There would have to be a safety nexus. One possibility is that a loss of electric power could inhibit motive power, steering, etc in such a way that a safety hazard is created.

We got a pretty basic Elantra as a loaner, but they were pleasant about it, at least.

I figured having a loaner was good enough, and when we had Audis, we generally got a fairly basic A4 as a loaner (except for a period where they gave Enterprise Rental Cars instead - ugh). Yes, an A4 is a nicer car than an Elantra, but for a couple of days, what difference does it really make?

If anything, it made us appreciate our GV60 that much more...

If it were a couple of days I would agree. The SA told me that I would have to be driving the loaner over the weekend. To me, given dealerspeak, that means longer, who knows how much longer.

I usually got a 3 series from BMW even though I had a 5 series. But when it was going to be a while, they were more than willing to accommodate me with a higher end car. I would accept a GV70 with the 3 liter engine, but not the 2.5 liter dog they gave me.

When I had a GV70 as a loaner, I thought I had refilled the gas tank before returning it to the level when they loaned it to me. I was advised I was a little over 1 gallon short and the dealership charged me for the difference. I think at like $6 to $7 a gallon.

We’ve had 2 loaners during our GV60 ownership.

- An EGV70 that was valet-dropped off at my house
- The aforementioned Elantra, which they offered to drop off, but I declined.

No Audi dealer EVER offered to valet/drop off a loaner, so I figure I’m ahead on that front with Genesis…🤷‍♂️
